Overview

Hello, I'm James Maldonado and I'm the band lead and contact for two different Jazz group experiences. Hire The Lesser Ape for a contemporary, electric, funky jazz sound. Guitar, Electric Bass, & Drums. Hire Trinoceros for a more cocktail hour-appropriate Jazz experience filled with your typical jazz standards. Piano, Upright Bass & Drums. Both groups are comprised of professional musicians, with decades of performance history and music education. Either group is perfect for private parties, weddings, or any other special event. We can be front and center or background music. Support your local artist with equitable pay and tell your friends. Reach out with any questions! Thanks!

What to expect

Whether as a soloist or a full band, I show up for your event dressed in your specified manner that reflects the vibe, feel, and occasion you are hoping to achieve. I happily clean up well in a nice slim fit suit or will dress as myself. My acoustic performances are mellow and perfect for any occasion where a full band may be just too much, think coffee house. My jazz group can be either a three piece or four piece. We are happy to set ourselves back and add music that sets the mood without taking everyones attention away from your specific event (cocktail hour style) or we can turn up the volume a bit and play some lively tunes that engage the audience and might even get some folks dancing. Regardless of which experience I provide for you, I conduct myself with absolute professionalism. I arrive early for setup and coordinate extensively with party planners to ensure that my entertainment does not cause you or the client any stress.

About

James Jorge is a long time bassist that has performed all over the US as a freelance/hired-gun musician. He has performed in orchestras, jazz groups, fusion bands, rock/punk bands, cover bands, R&B/soul groups, and much more. Wanting to expand his musical abilities, James took up guitar and began singing and playing some of his favorite songs. His eclectic song selection is a refreshing deviation from the typical music you hear covered at today's private events. Being a dual citizen with Bolivia and briefly growing up in Brazil, James is a well traveled musician with an immense love for music from around the world, performing in Bossa Nova groups and even a few mid-east/Balkan bands. James has worn many different hats, in addition to being a well versed musician he has worked as a certified dog trainer, bred horses in Santa Fe, New Mexico and worked as a horse wrangler in New Mexico and Upstate NY. When he lived in NYC, he performed with a 1920's jazz group and several wedding bands when he wasn't busy working in the Advertising industry. All of his life/work experience has made him well rounded musician that understands the importance of your next private event.

Additional booking notes

I will provide my own sound equipment that is used solely for my performance. If there is a need for my music equipment to be used by anyone else (speeches, etc) we will have to negotiate an additional charge. I do not provide any lighting, stage, or dance floor. If the event is outside, I will need to be in a location that is safe from excessive sun and safe from potential rain and other bad weather (for the sake of equipment). Please provide food and drink. Please understand that there will be a need to take set breaks. There may be more details that have to be discussed and agreed upon based on each individual occasion.

Influences and inspiration

My music influences are vast. World music, including Balkan, Brazilian, and many man Latin styles such as salsa. I grew up in a family that loves their rock and roll. From classics like the Beatles and Zeppelin, to Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. I love funk like Tower of Power, Parliament Funkadelics, and James Brown. Soul such as Stevie Wonder and Sam Cook. Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, Phish, Beck, Mazy Starr, and the list goes on and on and on.
