September 15, 2021I've worked with Shanlie Whittington of Silhouettes & Such at two special events per year over the last five years. In that time, Shanlie has become one of our most valuable and reliable demonstrators at the Alabama Frontier Days and French & Indian War programs. Her demonstrations of silhouette artistry consistently engage and please park visitors and I receive many complements of her demonstration at the end of each event. Visitors frequently ask if Shanlie will be attending the next event and I am pleased to say Silhouettes & Such will remain an important part of our park programming.

Shanlie Whittington is a self-taught artist and is one of the very few traditional freehand silhouettists in the world.
In addition to making her portraits available to customers worldwide through the Silhouettes & Such online shop, Shanlie travels extensively, cutting silhouettes in-person during public and private events. She also offers educational programming on the history of silhouette portraiture for museums, libraries and historic sites.
Shanlie has been awarded inclusion as a Master Craftsperson in the Directory of Traditional American Crafts, juried and published by Early American Life Magazine and was featured in the 2025 Color Edition of Alabama Weddings.
She was born and raised in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida, and now lives in Mobile, Alabama, with her husband and children.
