Shawntay Gorman

It was a wonderful experience working with artist Shawntay Gorman to showcase her beautiful artwork at our organization for our 2026 Black History Job Fair/Open House. From our initial meeting and discussion about the artwork to coordinating the hanging and seeing the final display come together, every step was a pleasure. Shawntay was professional, collaborative, and truly passionate about her work, and the artwork made a meaningful and beautiful addition to our event. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with her and highly recommend her talent and artistry.

I’ve worked with Shawntay several times on a number of different community projects and events. I have also bought some of her work. I’ve seen her lead art instruction with young people and with adults. Ive seen her create a large scale installation, and I’ve seen her do small quick pieces. No matter what it was she was doing, she always put deep love and care, and her own unique brilliance into it. When I listen to her talk about her work, what inspires her, and her lived experiences, I am always so deeply moved by the way she can draw it out in her beautiful work. Most artists are remarkable and inspiring people, but Shawntay is really one of a kind.

Shawntay's heart is just as big as her imagination and creativity. She's someone who is dreams up new ideas and runs with them, always with a heart for community and a genuine desire to see others thrive.

Having her as part of the Guava House community has been such a gift. She brings creativity, generosity, and an energy that reminds you that good ideas are even better when they're used to being people together.

Shawntay ran a painting party for a group of kiddos and parents we had out at our farm, and it was such a memorable event! She helped me brainstorm what we should paint and came up with some really unique and engaging ideas that worked perfectly for our guests. Her passion for art and sharing it with others really comes through in the way she teaches. She does an amazing job guiding people of all experience levels through the painting process, offering helpful tips and teaching proper brush techniques while still leaving plenty of room for everyone to relax, have fun and experience the joy of creating without any pressure or expectations. We will absolutely be having her back out to the farm and would love to work with her in any capacity we can on future projects!

As a former Director/Curator of The Brickhouse Gallery, I witnessed Shawntay’s ability to make art welcoming, engaging, and accessible to people of all ages. Her talent, warmth, and commitment to community shine through in everything she does. Shawntay is not only an artist—she is an educator, facilitator, and creative force who inspires others to discover the artist within themselves.

If you’re looking for a fun, artistic, and creative art night, I highly recommend Shawntay! She brings joy, inspiration, and a beautiful sense of community to every experience.
