When I speak to any audience, I have one vision. It’s that someone can learn from my mistakes, so they don’t have to make their own. My hope is to encourage and inspire others with my own personal experiences involving; drugs, alcohol, depression, anxiety, insecurity and suicidal behavior. I will tell them what it was like, what happened and what it is like today. I am recovered and turning my mess into a message.

February 18, 2019Sam spoke at our fundraising gala at which we were raising funds for the purchase of Naloxone. He shared very candidly about his experience being revived with Naloxone and it really got the audience understanding the importance of our work and getting it out into the community.

He, through several emails and phone calls, ensured that he was well prepared for the event. Sam Anthony is a person in long term recovery from substance use disorder, who uses his personal experiences with drugs, alcohol, depression, anxiety, and suicidal behavior to educate and motivate others.
He took his first drink at 12 years old as a means of hiding his depression and trying to fit in with his peers. He moved on to smoking weed and trying pills in high school and that would lead him down a path of destruction. Running away from his problems he left New Jersey and moved south in hopes of starting over. But everywhere he went there he was.
What started off as self medication turned into vicious addiction leading to an overdose that landed him on life support in 2013. Thinking he can still function without help and counseling he was arrested and sentenced to 3 years in jail in 2015.
Since then he has passionately shared his story with thousands of high school and college students, health care professionals, and government officials through motivational speaking, panel discussions, and personal testimonials. Sam’s message emphasizes awareness and encouragement.
He is a responsible father to his son Micah, loving husband to his wife Rachel, and an active member of his community in Loudoun County. Sam became a professional personal trainer in an effort to help others lead a healthy lifestyle. Physical fitness and spiritual fitness are key components of his daily plan of recovery. Sunday’s are spent with family at Cornerstone Chapel and he\’s an integral part of his home recovery group that he attends weekly. In his free time he enjoys working with others in recovery, playing outdoors with his dogs, reading, working out, cooking, and writing.
