What to expect

With Ron Hobson Solo, you will not get a laptop filled with 600 midi files of popular tunes that I have downloaded and can play guitar and sing to instantly upon audience request. What you will get is an intimate evening of fully orchestrated music performed by an authentic original music creator. You will hear great variations on timeless songs that have been staples of radio airplay for years as well as tasteful originals that have a classic retro vibe. Expect a rock and roll vibe with a progressive, multi-genre flavor. Expect the audience to really be drawn in and want to hang around and listen.

About

I began learning guitar at six years old and began to put my own lyrics down to music somewhere around late high school, early college age. My first attempts at recording something that I had written was during my college years. During my early twenties I began learning to record myself with a borrowed four track recorder and this is really where I began to learn about production, arrangement and recording original music. It was also during this time that I began to focus on being able to do my own sessions work on the bass guitar, piano and drums as well as synths and guitars. I began doing these lavish, self-indulgent live shows that were mainly focused on improvisation and jamming with the occasional cover tune. Looking back, I feel that this was the time period that audiences appeared to love what I was doing the most. I had constant shows every weekend that I wanted to perform and establishments that wanted me to sort of do a residency and be the house "one man band" so to speak. After those incredible years of "discovery", I began to play more covers in the live show and spend much more time on creating really good backing tracks for the cover songs that I wanted to perform. Over the years, I also did sessions for other acts, was a fill in musician with many other bands, and was a founding member as well as the lead singer and guitarist for an original three- piece-band named "Go Figure." I am currently self-published as a solo original music artist with a rich history of musical creations. I am currently releasing music and performing under the name Ron Hobson Solo.

Additional booking notes

Just need a small stage area (12x10 as an example). However, I do prefer stages that let you move around a little.
One standard 120v/20amp outlet in close proximity and in good working condition.
Load in/parking as close to the backstage as possible.
Access to a staff rest room that is not public or at least less public, especially if alcohol is available.
*I can bring fancy stage lighting for a few more bucks if needed
Access to backstage green room if available.

Influences and inspiration

My influences are across the board and multi-genre. However, my biggest influences have been from the classic rock and progressive rock world. My favorite male rock singer is Paul Rodgers. My favorite progressive singer is John Anderson. Guitarists that I loved growing up were Jimmy Page, Steve How, Alex Lifeson, David Gates. My favorite female singer/songwriter/pianist was the late Christine McVie. I am also a big Alanis Morissette fan and I think that Dolly Parton is absolutely great. I love watching SADE and her band on youtube. They were really great! My favorite female blues singer from more recent times is Susan Tedeschi, who just happens to be a great guitarist too. The late RUSH drummer Neil Peart was an inspiration to me as a musician/lyricist in general. I think that the progressive rock group YES probably was also a big influence on how I like to create and arrange music, especially their earlier creations. However, there have been countless influences by groups and artists from so many decades that it's just hard to pin it down.
