What to Expect

When you book me, my main goal is pretty simple: I want your guests to have a great time and I want them talking about the magic after I leave.

Every event is different, so I don't try to force the exact same show into every situation. A corporate event is different from a kid's birthday party. A wedding cocktail hour is different from a house party. A group of 20 people in a living room needs something different than 200 people in a ballroom.

Once I know what you're planning, I'll help you figure out what makes the most sense.

If you want everyone gathered together and watching at the same time, I can do a full interactive magic show. The show mixes magic, mind reading, comedy and audience participation. I use people from the audience throughout the performance, so it feels like something happening with your group instead of just someone standing in front of everyone doing tricks.

If you have more of a cocktail party, wedding, corporate mixer or event where people are moving around, strolling magic is usually a great option. I walk around and perform for small groups of people at a time. Nothing has to stop. People can keep eating, drinking, talking and enjoying the party while I'm moving around doing magic right in front of them.

This is probably the easiest type of magic to add to an event because it doesn't require everyone to sit down or pay attention at the same time. It also gives people something to talk about. You'll usually hear a group reacting somewhere in the room and then I move on to the next group.

I also perform mentalism and mind reading, especially for adult and corporate events. That's where things can get a little strange. Instead of only doing traditional magic, I might have someone think of something, make a decision, draw something, choose a word or concentrate on a memory. Then I try to reveal information I shouldn't possibly know. If you want something that feels a little different from what people normally picture when they think of a magician, I can lean more heavily into that style.

For birthday parties and family events, I change the show quite a bit. Kids want to be involved. They want to yell things out, laugh, volunteer and try to catch me. I let them. The birthday kid gets to be part of the experience and I try to make the show fun for the adults too. I've always felt that a good kids show shouldn't mean the parents have to spend an hour wishing it was over.

I also don't believe in embarrassing people just because they're participating in a magic show. I'll joke around, improvise and have fun with people, but I'm not interested in making one of your guests uncomfortable for a laugh. Especially at weddings and corporate events, I want the people who participate to have as much fun as the people watching them.

You usually don't need anything crazy for me to perform. Strolling magic requires very little setup. For a full show, it's helpful to have an area where everyone can see and hear me. It doesn't always have to be an actual stage. I've performed in living rooms, backyards, restaurants, bars, offices, ballrooms, event spaces and plenty of other places that weren't designed for a magic show.

For larger events we can talk beforehand about sound, lighting, staging or anything else that might be needed. If you're not sure whether your space will work, just tell me what you're working with and we'll figure it out.

The same goes for the size of your audience. I can perform for a small group or a much larger crowd. What changes is the type of performance. Sometimes a small group is perfect for a more intimate show. Sometimes a large event is better for strolling magic. Sometimes doing strolling magic for part of the event and a show later is the best option.

I can also customize what I'm doing based on the event. If it's a company event, I can make the performance feel appropriate for that crowd. If it's a bachelorette party or adult birthday, I can loosen things up. If it's a family event, I'll keep it appropriate for everybody. I don't want every event I perform at to feel exactly the same.

Before the event, we'll make sure we have the basics worked out: when I'm performing, where I'm going, approximately how many people will be there and what kind of performance we're doing. For larger events we'll work out any additional details ahead of time.

Then you can worry about the rest of your event and I'll worry about entertaining everybody.

One of my favorite things about doing this is that I never completely know what is going to happen. I know the show and I know the magic, but I don't know what somebody is going to say, how they're going to react or what funny thing might happen when I bring someone up. That's what makes live entertainment fun for me.

And that's really what I want you to expect when you hire me. I don't want people politely clapping because you hired a magician. I want them laughing, reacting, trying to figure things out and coming up to each other afterward saying, "How did he do that?"
