Rio Bossa Nova
Overview
Featuring Brazilian vocals & jazz guitar, Rio’s vibe is invigorating yet relaxing, playful yet sophisticated, classic yet unique. Call it retro or call it timeless— for social events, this is the original cocktail music. For weddings, it's the most romantic music in the world. Available as a duo, trio, or quartet.
“I was mesmerized from the first moment I heard them.“ ~ Wilco’s Pat Sansone
Rio’s vocalist & guitarist are the hometown alter-egos of Max Hatt / Edda Glass. Winners of the NewSong Competition, they’ve played coast-to-coast from NYC’s Lincoln Center to the Sundance Film Fest, and in 2016 will play NPR Mountain Stage. Their upcoming release was produced by Wilco’s Pat Sansone.

April 3, 2015Better then the original!!! I love Rio Bossa Nova!!!
Rio Bossa Nova is more then just an incredible band that plays the timeless smooth sounds of Brazilian Jazz flawlessly, better then the original, they are artists that infused intimacy and sensuality into live music! Recently they played for my wedding. I felt fortunate to have booked them. They've received many awards and favorable critiques. This band made my wedding an event never to be forgotten. Everyone enjoyed the music, had fun and got up and danced. Its been almost three week since my wedding and I'm still getting calls from attendants boasting how great Rio was and the entire affair!!!!

Rio's vocalist and guitarist are the alter-egos of the band Max Hatt / Edda Glass, who play coast-to-coast from New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to NPR Mountain Stage and the Sundance Film Festival. They've been featured by New York City Winery's Cellar Sessions, New York's WFUV, Huffington Post, Relix Magazine, Daytrotter, and, this summer, Wilco's Solid Sound Festival.
FOR JAZZ FANS: Rio plays a lovingly curated repertoire of ballads, swing, latin, and jazz standards.
FOR BRAZILIAN MUSIC FANS: As a Brazilian friend once said of Rio, we must be "brasileiros de alma e coração"— Brazilian in heart and soul. We deeply love and respect Bossa Nova and the beautiful musical instrument that is Brazilian portuguese. João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes — these are our heroes. We can easly play entire event of Bossa Nova & Samba if you so choose.
FOR AUDIOPHILES: Our state-of-the-art Bose tower speaker system helps us create low-noise high-definition sound. This sonic clarity allows us to set the volume low and yet infuse your event with the lightness and energy of live music. The Bose's elegant profile and small footprint completes Rio's style.
"What is it about Bossa Nova that is so relaxing, yet invigorating? Fluid guitar solos and the sibilant hush of the lovely Portuguese language fill out such well-known tunes as "Manhã de Carnaval," "Corcovado," and "No More Blues," wherein Glass leaps into dissonance like it's easy, for crying out loud. Yow! Say "ah-h" to the ideal panacea…"
— Mariss McTucker, The Lively Times
"Edda's delivery has all the breathy sensuousness of Sade and the clarity and conversational style of Suzanne Vega...You don't have to understand a word of Portuguese to appreciate the unique cadence of the language - lilting, swaying, countering the lively yet understated melodies provided by guitarist Max Hatt."
— Jessica Soberg, Your Times
