Dr. Rebecca Ortiz is an acclaimed trumpet performer and educator originally from Laredo, Texas, whose work spans orchestral performance, solo artistry, mariachi, chamber music, and higher education. Recently appointed Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Ortiz has established herself as a dynamic artist and dedicated pedagogue with a growing national presence. Rebecca earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder. She holds a Master of Music from Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts and a Bachelor of Music from The University of Texas at Austin’s Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music.
An accomplished competitor, Rebecca has earned recognition at major national competitions, including winning the National Trumpet Competition Small Ensemble Division, placing First in the 2022 Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Solo Competition and being a finalist in the Roger Voisin Memorial International Trumpet Competition. Her artistry has taken her across the United States as a soloist, orchestral musician, and freelance performer.
Rebecca has performed with numerous professional orchestras including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, and Tucson Symphony Orchestra. She previously served as Third Trumpet with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra and held a teaching position at the Boulder Symphony Music Academy.
In addition to her orchestral career, Rebecca is a core member of Colorado’s premier all-female mariachi ensemble, Mariachi Las Dahlias. Her diverse performance career has also led her to collaborate with internationally celebrated artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Pink Martini, Danny Elfman, and Gregory Alan Isakov, reflecting a musical voice that bridges classical, mariachi, and contemporary genres.

Mariachi Band booking inquiries must be for full 6 member ensemble. All musicians come with their own equipment and sound system if needed dependent on venue. Requirements for booking: access to bathrooms, and to be allowed to access beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and water for musicians. Brass Quintet or solo bookings need chairs for musicians. Deposit covers travel expenses for musicians.
