It was indeed a blessing that I found Ms. Laura Nava thru the Gig Salad website as I was searching for a Marilyn Monroe or a Mae West or an Elizabeth Taylor to perform at our club's 70th Anniversary Luncheon, held March 23, 2013. The Luncheon theme was "Diamonds and Divas". Therefore, we wanted someone who was top notch when it came to impersonating one of those iconic "divas" who personified glamor and glitz. When I saw Laura's performance on the GigSalad website in her "Marilyn" personna, I immediately knew I'd found the caliber of performer desired for our event. In addition to being a quality performer as "Marilyn", Ms. Nava proved to be a joy to work with during our communications as we planned her arrangements to come to Kansas City. At the time we confirmed her appearence, she told me not to worry, that she had everything under control. While I was encouraged to here such a positive declaration, the proof was in the pudding. Ms. Nava delivered in spades!!!! She worked the event room in three classic Marilyn looks: the white pleated dress from the Seven Year Itch, the gold "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" gown and the iconic pink gown of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" fame. Her set list for a 40 minute show, done in three sets, included such standards as: "What Ever Lola Wants" "I Want to Be Loved By You", "Boy From Impanema", "Come Rain or Come Shine"; "Fever"; "Do Right (Like Some other Men Do"); "Just A Little Girl from Little Rock"; "My Heart Belongs to Daddy"; "Hey Big Spender" and the fantastic finale of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend". Ms. Nava was the talk of the Luncheon!! She was not only professional, but was most personable and mingled freely with and among the Luncheon guests. She brough the crowd to its feet. We thoroughly enjoyed her. My only regret is that the other guests did not get to fully appreciate the transformation that I got to see as Laura became "Marilyn". Ms. Nava made the investment necessary in makeup, hair, clothing and accessories to make you believe you were seeing "Marilyn" in all her diamond glory. And once she was attired as Marilyn, all the mannerisms and voice intonation that you would expect, were there. And she sang the songs -- no lip synching! In summary, if you want a top notch "Marilyn", Ms. Laura Nava is the person you need! We love her in Kansas City!!!
