“Elvis Birday Bash 01/05/14. With Lynne Sheridan, went to Art Fein's 27th (!) annual ELVIS PRESLEY birthday bash yesterday afternoon at The Echo, with all admissions ($20 apiece) donated to the L.A. Rescue Mission. The lengthy artist roster meant that nearly all were limited to one or two numbers -- not a bad thing, as it turned out, given the 2-to-1 ratio of forgettable-to-memorable performances (all of Elvis songs). Best in show: THE RAYFORD BROS. ("A Little Less Conversation," a surprising choice and very funky), LAURA SMITH ("One Broken Heart For Sale," with Bob Ricketts on guitar), STEVE STANLEY (a terrific "Kentucky Rain," with superb support by the house band incl. guitarist Harry Orlove), BRIAN WHELAN (fine singing and tuff lead guitar on "Burning Love" and "The Promised Land"), and DARRIN STOUT (whose garbled lyrics and plentiful guitar "clams" somehow created a sense of freedom and improvisation that made "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" and "Mystery Train" his own).”

“LA HABRA TRIO WINS ROCKABILLY SHOWDOWN 7/2/2013: Costa Mesa, CA –The Rayford Brothers, a La Habra based trio, were selected winners of the 4th Annual West Coast Rockabilly Showdown, an event that pitted unsigned bands in a competition that spanned four weekends at the Orange County Market Place in Costa Mesa. The top four bands from the Showdown performed in the finals on Saturday, June 29 vying for $2,500 in cash awards. Band members include Dan Edwards on guitar, Scott Cordello on bass and Greg Davenport on drums and they bill themselves as a high energy country-flavored rhythm and blues trio. They won the $1,000 cash award for first place.”

“OC Weekly (Dec 22, 2011). The Rayford Brothers are well versed in the language of Rockabilly—swingin' beats and face-melting leads. But coming through the swing with audible clarity is a twangy country influence. They play sweet bendy, rambling goodness—like Brian Setzer teaming up with Gram Parsons.”
