Jane Labowitch, aka Princess Etch, is a full-time Etch A Sketch artist based in Chicago. With over 20 years of experience, Princess Etch can render likenesses on an Etch A Sketch in 5-7 minutes. Special pre-preserved Etch A Sketches are used so that guests can take their portraits home and keep them forever.
Notable clients include Disney, Cartoon Network, MTV, The Ritz-Carlton, and Toys R Us. Her work has been featured on Chicago news channels, NPR, the Art Institute of Chicago, CNN, the Huffington Post, and more. She has traveled around the US, and to Paris and India, to show her work and create live art.
Princess Etch would love to be a part of your next event!
What to Expect
Princess Etch will arrive with her custom-preserved Etch A Sketches at the ready. She will have an assistant with her who will help to finish the preservation process after portraits are complete. Guests sit across from Princess Etch as she renders portraits in minutes. Venues are welcome to provide equipment so that her work can be projected for audiences to more easily see. Otherwise, it's advisable to place her in a location where foot traffic can easily get around as crowds typically stick around to watch her work. All that is required is a table, 4 chairs, decent lighting, and access to a power outlet.
Princess Etch will sit across from guests and render their portrait using the two knobs of an Etch A Sketch while having pleasant conversation. Upon portrait completion, guests are welcome to leave their art until the end of the event, which gives other guests an opportunity to check out renditions that were made before theirs. People often check in to see how portraits of their friends and loved ones turned out. Portraits are decoratively packaged and include special care cards for those who might be nervous about bringing an Etch A Sketch home. The art is made completely permanent, and the care card explains the preservation process and includes information on how to best display the work.
Jane Labowitch (Lab-oh-witch) is a Chicago artist who also responds to her professional nom de plume, Princess Etch. Jane started playing with an Etch A Sketch when she was 4 (she's 26 now). She played with the toy so much in her childhood that she inadvertently taught herself how to properly operate it. From that point on Jane's etching skills grew with her drawing skills. While obtaining a BFA in Illustration at the American Academy of Art, she further honed her Etch A Sketch abilities outside of the classroom. Her work has been featured on Reddit, CNN, the Huffington Post, Threadless, Smosh, Buzzfeed, Cartoon Network, the Chicago Blackhawks Blog, the Disney Parks Blog, DeviantArt, and more. She has had the fortune of traveling all over the US, and even to Paris and India, to show her work and create it in front of live audiences.
Additional Booking Notes
In the event that you would be interested in projecting the live portraits being rendered on a larger screen, AV equipment is required. Princess Etch can provide camera equipment for an extra fee but does not supply TVs/projection equipment.
