Phil Orselli, Freelance Trombonist

Philip Orselli is a young, up-and-coming trombonist from Long Island, New York. Philip has had a passion for performing since he began trombone instruction at age nine. His musical zeal garnered him acceptances to the New York All-State Orchestra in 2015, and New York All-State Band in 2016. During that time, he also attended the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) Pre-College program, performing with the MSM Symphony and MSM Philharmonic. There, he studied privately under Gilles Bernard and worked closely with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra trombone section.

Philip has served as principal trombone with the South Shore Symphony, the Jackson Heights Orchestra, and most recently, at the Vienna Summer Music Festival in Austria. He was also an active member of the Long Island Youth Orchestra, where he served as principal trombone for three years. In 2017, he won the LIYO Concerto Competition and performed the Ferdinand Davíd Concertino with the orchestra.

A current senior at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, Philip is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in trombone performance under the tutelage of Jack Schatz. There, he serves as principal trombone of the Purchase Symphony Orchestra and the Purchase Opera Orchestra. In his free time Philip is fond of swimming, baking and spending time with his family and girlfriend.
