Influences and inspiration
As an actress and spoken word poet, I draw inspiration from a wide range of powerful storytellers—those who aren’t afraid to speak truth, stir emotion, and challenge the norm.
In acting, I’ve been deeply influenced by the brilliance of Viola Davis for her emotional authenticity, Cicely Tyson for her grace and legacy, and Taraji P. Henson for her boldness and versatility. Tyler Perry and Ava DuVernay have inspired me through their ability to create stories rooted in faith, struggle, and healing for Black communities, especially women.
In the world of poetry and spoken word, I’ve been moved by the rhythm and rawness of Maya Angelou, the fire and fearlessness of Nikki Giovanni, and the modern truth-telling of Javon Johnson and Carlos Andrés Gómez. I also find inspiration in everyday people—women surviving, thriving, and rising beyond what was meant to break them.
My influences come from life, loss, love, and legacy—from Sunday morning testimonies to front porch storytelling, from the pain of experience to the power of performance. I carry their voices in mine, and I honor their impact every time I take the stage.
