About

El Pasoan, Paul Deemer is a first call musician in Austin, Texas playing trombone, trumpet, drums, and piano. He is currently playing and touring with The Polyphonic Spree, Calexico, Hard Proof, Brownout, and currently as a part of The Kill Tony Band on Kill Tony, the #1 live comedy podcast in the world.

Paul’s first high-profile performance was with The Walkmen at FunFunFun 2013. Since then he has assembled and played in sections for Gary Clark Jr., Jon Batiste, Maggie Rose, Aaron Frazer, Adrian Quesada’s Jaguar Sounds, and Thee Sacred Souls at Austin’s City Limits (ACL) festival.

Some additional highlights include ACL Live Moody Theater taping with Spoon, The Polyphonic Spree, Japanese Breakfast, Jaguar sounds, and the Kill Tony’s 10 year Anniversary show. Paul also enjoyed the honor of playing at Radio City Music Hall in New York for the David Bowie Tribute as well as the Austin Moody Center's first ever concert: The Who. Additionally, Paul was a showcasing artist at Austin's 2020 South By Southwest Festival (SXSW) and had the privilege of recording for a Jimmy Fallon taping with Surfaces in 2021.

A professor, clinician and lecturer of Jazz Trombone at The University of Texas at Austin, Paul holds his Master’s degree in Studio Music and Jazz from the Frost School of Music in Miami, Florida. He has toured internationally and recorded on numerous albums including Shiny Ribs, Trail of the Dead, Dave Grusin, Molly Burch, The Polyphonic Spree, and Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas) and can be seen performing in the Austin area with his bands Dreemr and the Paul Deemer Quintet.
