Paris Chansons is Los Angeles’s premier French band with a Global Twist. They are known for their original renditions of French favorites from Aznavour, Brel, Dassin, Piaf, Macias, Adamo, Montand, all the way to contemporary artists such as Zaz. Their exhilarating performances are punctuated by Gypsy jazz standards in addition to classics in Russian, Italian, and other languages.
Three multilingual singers bring an unparalleled diversity to their shows. Paris Chansons takes you on a journey - a spectacular celebration of French and international music that brings the world that much closer.

August 24, 2019Great duo for birthday party!
I had a milestone birthday event with many guests, friends, relatives, colleagues and what can bring together such a diverse group. Some would think great food but most would say great entertainment. And Jacob and Julia from Paris Chansons sure did that. They arrived an hour and a half before the party to make sure that set up was right, they carefully selected the list of songs for the event, with slow romantic ones at first and then faster tempo for the dancing stretch of the party and back to slow. French songs, Russian and Yiddish songs. We had such a great time

June 27, 2018"Paris Chansons" Was Great in a Milestone Birthday Party!
The band Paris Chansons greatly contributed to the success of a milestone birthday party in Los Angeles. Each band member is an accomplished musician and their 3 excellent singers created a wonderful atmosphere with mostly French songs, but also East European and Mediterranean melodies. They clearly love what they do. They were very responsive to the mood of their audience and adjusted their program accordingly. I warmly recommend them!

The City of West Hollywood’s Recreation Services Division hosted “A Night in Paris” senior dance where Paris Chanson provided lively and entertaining music through out the evening. Julia, her husband, and all of the musicians involved displayed true musical talent and are well versed in array of musical genres that made our event a real success. Working with Paris Chansons was a real treat for our city, and we would happily welcome them back to perform at future events.

Their exhilarating performances are punctuated with traditional jazz standards as well as classics in Russian, Italian, and other languages.
Three multilingual singers bring an unparalleled diversity to their shows. Julia Kantor, originally from the Ukraine, lived and studied in France where she discovered in French music a soul connection that still imbues every performance. She entrances from the stage with a sultry voice and dynamic presence. Together with her husband, Jacob, a Russian-born singer/songwriter, they launched Paris Chansons. Max Cohen grew up in Morocco steeped in French music, particularly the songs of Enrico Macias. Max’s rich velvety tone delivers beautifully nuanced renditions of his favorites, complete with a signature North African lilt.
Superb musicianship anchors the ensemble, effortlessly moving from jazzy improvisation to slow-burning balladry to blistering gypsy fervor. All seasoned pros, the musicians are Jeff Lams on piano, Adam Cohen on upright bass, Endre Balogh on violin, Sinclair Lott on drums and Jacob Kantor on guitar. Paris Chansons takes you an a journey without leaving your seat (except maybe to dance!), a spectacular celebration of French and international music that brings the world that much closer.
They are available to perform as a duo or quartet for more intimate events.

Set list
Our ensemble performs primarily French music (from Aznavour, Dassin, Piaf, Montand, Macias, Kaas, Gainsbourg, Cabrel, Adamo, Vaya Con Dios all the way to Zaz!!). Two of our singers are also fluent in Russian and perform some "Romances" and "Gypsy" songs. And one of our singers is Moroccan/Israeli and sings in Hebrew as well.
Influences and inspiration
Julia Kantor is a singer and actress originally from the Ukraine, but her heart resides in France (the commute is a killer). Having lived and studied in Rennes, she discovered in French music a soul connection that she brings to every performance. She is truly passionate about these songs!
Together with her husband, Jacob, a Russian-born singer/songwriter, she has appeared at clubs and festivals all over Los Angeles. They began singing on their first date and have continued ever since, in French as well as English and Russian. She recently sang on a French children’s album which has been released through Habla Blah Blah.
