Papa Rap and the MC Band

Al Lopez is community-spirited with the unique ability to engage individuals within diverse communities through music.

Al Lopez is also known as "Papa Rap," an alias he uses when performing at area schools and civic organization events. In 1994, he came from Puerto Rico to Springdale to finalize a music project he was working on. He discovered there was a big influx of Latinos moving into the area and misunderstandings due to the language barriers. It occurred to him, he could write bilingual tunes to help bridge these communication gaps. One of his tunes entitled “What’s Up, Que Pasa” won first place in the global John Lennon songwriting​ competition. Al Lopez is committed to serving his community and has been recognized at the state and national levels for his work.
