Overview

Experience the energy and awe of the haka. The haka is a passionate, traditional Māori dance famous around the world.
Today, haka are still used during ceremonies and celebrations to honour guests and show the importance of the occasion. This includes family events, like birthdays, graduations, weddings and funerals.
One common misconception is the haka should only be performed by males.
Non-Māori are welcome to learn the haka; however, it's important that you respect the culture and traditions behind the dance. Learn the words and make sure you understand the meanings behind the chants, the significance of a particular haka and what you are trying to express when performing it.

About

“The origins of Haka are from the godly realm,” ,the Māori cultural advisor to New Zealand Rugby, said on the All Blacks Podcast. As a New Zealand Māori this is what I believe. The coming together of giants sends a divine chill through blood and you will feel it still whenever you witness the Haka live. The spine tingling cry of the leader, the deep rumble of the actions in unison, the thunderous knee slaps and the muscular forearms thrust out like spears and shields. It will take your breath away.
“I believe any fan will remember the first time they see it with their own eyes,” “It’s really special. People left inspiration, motivation, strength, and power from it. Yes, it is performed by the All Blacks and that means you’re about to witness one of the best teams in the world. But the Haka brings something else that makes a match with the All Blacks unique.”
“The haka provides motivation for anyone to step forward to any challenge that is effecting their life. The haka is to motivate the warrior within either man or women. The haka holds massive respect for a culture engrossed in pride. If you face up to it or whatever you do. It’s about us, about our families, about our Whakapapa. About who has come before us. We’re laying down a challenge but it’s more than that. People maybe don’t realise how deep it goes.”
At the end of the day. The haka will inspire you to face any challenges, remember the people who stood or motivated you in your life, hold your family closer and challenge you to be the best you can be.
