Overview
At its core, the group is a trio consisting of drums, bass, and piano, and based on the customer's need, will include additional instruments to suit the client's taste. Following in the tradition of Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, NYJM boasts a roster of outstanding musicians who are well versed in many musical styles and are dedicated to mastery of instrument.
We specialize in weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, and all occasions both public and private. Please feel free to contact us for samples of performances and estimates!

We are a private country club in Suffolk County and were doing a special dinner night in the restaurant for about 75 members. Milton and his group were wonderful! They arrived early, were set up to perform on time as promised, then proceeded to wow the members for the next 3 hours. The feedback from the members in the days since the dinner has been overwhelmingly positive, even from our beloved "critic" members. We will absolutely use NY Jazz Mission in the future. If they're available, don't hesitate to book this band. Talented and professional.

As the former owner and booker for Treme Blues and Jazz Club in Islip, I put much pride in the quality of performers brought into the club. Milton and the NY Jazz Mission were always a group that we looked forward to working with. Their performances were top-notch and it was a pleasure to work with such professionals. Milton was responsive to all communication, always came on time and provided a terrific show. I would highly recommend the NY Jazz Mission to any clubs or private individuals looking to hire a jazz band. What to expect
We are a traditional Jazz trio playing American standards and hard bop in the style of Bill Evans Trio and Thelonious Monk. Primarily, we are piano, bass and drums.

The New York Jazz Mission, founded and lead by drummer/percussionist Milton Hernandez is the result of the desire to carry on the grand tradition of America's classical music, Jazz.
The band boasts the outstanding talents of bassist Alyssa Adamson and Jeff Hanness on piano operating primarily as a trio and based on the customer's need, will include additional instruments to suit the client's taste. Following in the tradition of Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, NYJM is proud to offer a group of excellent musicians who are well versed in many musical styles and are dedicated to mastery of instrument.
Along with Art Blakey, they are proud to perform the music of Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Charles Mingus and great American standards.
Additional booking notes
We only require power for an electric keyboard (if there is no piano on site) and for the amplifier for an upright bass.
