Nerd Nite, now in its 6th year, is a group that hosts regular monthly events in New York, Boston, DC, Austin, Munich, and shortly, LA, San Francisco, and New Orleans. Nicknamed, "It's Like the Discovery Channel with Beer," Nerd Nite is an event during which 3 expert presenters of various topics (as different and as strange as Insect Mating, Godzilla Ancestry, Zombies, and Defunct Disney Rides) give humorous-yet-intelligent 20-minute presentations while the audience is encouraged to drink along. This fun-filled event makes learning more irreverent, fun, and slightly buzzed.

Nerd Nite is an informal gathering at which nerds get together for nerdery of all sorts (well, mostly presentations and drinking). Nerds and non-nerds alike gather to meet, drink and learn about strange things such as Things your Spiritual Adviser Never Told You about Quantum Mechanics, The Scientific Investigation of Alien Life, The Ancestry of Godzilla, or The Psychology of Tetris.
Nerd Nite started in Boston in 2003 when the bartenders at the Midway Café convinced one of their regulars, Chris Balakrishnan, to host an evening at the bar in order to explain once and for all where the heck he disappeared to every fall (turns out he was doing three-month stints in Cameroon to study the indigo bird for his doctoral research). And so the first Nerd Nite was born.
No advanced degrees are required, just a passion for the subject matter.
