Moira Levant, Violinist and Fiddler

It greatly depends on the event. If I am playing a wedding or wedding reception I play more backround music. If it is an actual show I tend to like to interact with the audience and play things they want to hear (I do take requests). I have played some period fares where I am a street musician and have a lot of interaction with the audience.

For weddings it is much more formal, especially for the wedding itself.

Moira Levant is a classically trained violinist who can also play Irish fiddle. She started playing the violin when she was 8. She spent 9 month in Ireland studying Irish traditional music at the University of Limerick where she obtained a Masters in Ethnomusicology. She has played in traditional music sessions all over Ireland and the United States. Moira has also played classical music in community orchestras and professional ensembles. She is also a composer with a Masters degree in Music Composition from Carnegie Mellon. She is co-founder of COCOA, Composers of Ohio Collaborative Organization for Acoustic (music). The organization aims to give composers a non competitive platform to showcase their music and bring it to a larger audience. Her undergraduate degree is in Music history and was obtained from Wright State University. She is an alumni of the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and has played in the past with the Miami Valley Symphony and the Middletown Symphony. She is a long time participant as a fiddler of the Fair at New Boston held every Labor Day weekend in Springfield, Ohio, where she plays for the Liberty Dancers. I can play accoustic or plugged in. I usually don't need much time to set up, about 1/2 hour.
