What to Expect
Engaging, beautiful singing with plenty of respectful audience interaction.
I prefer to have an accompanist provided for each of my classical gigs. If there isn't one then I can arrange with the contact person to have a sound system in place for a recorded background track.
A cappella is ALWAYS an option. With my extensive background in theory, ear training, and performance I have wowed people with my unaccompanied voice. If there is a request for a mixture of styles in the evening I am have found it is quite effective to have one or two songs sung a cappella along with those that are accompanied.
Singing classical repertoire from the age of 6 with the Young Singers of Callanwolde, Margie Minka Wiltz has a voice that was made for song. Her early years included singing with the Young Singers in small venues such as malls around Atlanta during the Holiday season and in concerts with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and Morehouse Glee Club.
As she grew so did her voice and she was fortunate enough to study with some of Atlanta's premiere voice teachers at the time: Betty Colson, Sandra Crawford, and Sharon Stevenson. Her voice training was furthered as she took classes at University level with Dr. Jaynne Middleton at Hardin-Simmons Univeristy and then in the professional arena with the Atlanta Opera in their initial production of Porgy And Bess(2005) and Madame Butterfly (2004).
She has been a staff singer at North Avenue Presbyterian, Roswell Presbyterian, and Peachtree Presbyterian.
Her efforts at the 2008 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions garnered her an encouragement award and her performance of Black Pearl Sings brought her a nod from the Suzi Bass Awards committee.
Minka is currently in the process of preparing her upcoming debut album and is very excited about where the road takes her next.
Additional Booking Notes
The optimum experience for all depends on what mood is being evoked:
If the music of classical opera is desired then there should be enough room for a singer, an accompanist, a keyboard(if a piano isn't provided) and that's it.
If there is a musical melange that is desired then there should be the above mentioned arrangements and an amplification system within which to plug in a microphone and a place for a stand. (I can provide my own stand). I would like to be in the space at least 30 minutes beforehand to have a soundcheck with the equipment and my accompanist.
