A true leader who steps up when it matters

Michael Greenwalt is someone who truly leads by example. When I was organizing a charity event supporting veterans and first responders, he stepped up in a big way—offering his time, experience, connections, and genuine support. His heart for helping others and his ability to bring people together made a real difference, and I’m incredibly grateful to have had him involved.

What to expect

Michael’s presentations are built around one goal: make the audience part of the experience, not simply spectators.

Expect real stories, humor, audience interaction, practical frameworks, and honest conversations about what leadership looks like when the pressure is real. Michael doesn’t lecture from a stage or rely on theory. He draws from more than two decades of leading in high-pressure environments and connects those lessons to the challenges today’s leaders and teams are actually facing.

Depending on the program, audiences may explore communication under pressure, trust, difficult conversations, relationship building, adaptability, career reinvention, artificial intelligence, and what it means to remain distinctly human in a rapidly changing workplace.

Keynotes are engaging, story-driven, and designed to leave audiences with both a memorable message and practical takeaways.

Workshops are highly interactive. Michael incorporates discussion, exercises, real-world scenarios, audience participation, and facilitated conversations so participants can apply the material to their own teams and organizations.

Leadership retreats and facilitated sessions can be customized around the organization’s specific challenges, giving leaders room to have meaningful conversations rather than sitting through another presentation.

Michael also offers fireside conversations and moderated discussions for organizations looking for a less traditional format.

Clients can expect Michael to take the time to understand the audience and the purpose of the event. Programs can be customized around industry, leadership level, organizational challenges, event theme, and desired outcomes.

Michael works particularly well with corporate teams, associations, government organizations, public safety professionals, emerging leaders, executives, educators, and organizations navigating significant change.

Whether he’s delivering a keynote to a conference or spending several hours working directly with a leadership team, the objective is the same:

People should leave thinking differently, talking to each other differently, and equipped with something they can actually use when they return to work.

About

Michael Greenwalt spent more than two decades leading people when communication, trust, and decision-making mattered most.

A retired Battalion Chief and military veteran, Michael built his leadership philosophy in environments where pressure was real and leadership wasn’t theoretical. Today, he brings those lessons to organizations navigating a different kind of pressure: rapid change, evolving workplaces, new technology, and the challenge of keeping people connected through it all.

Michael is a leadership keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, author, and entrepreneur working at the intersection of leadership, communication, human connection, and artificial intelligence.

His approach is practical and deeply human. Rather than simply motivating an audience for an hour, Michael gives people ideas and tools they can take back to their teams and use immediately. His programs explore how leaders communicate under pressure, build trust, navigate difficult conversations, strengthen relationships, adapt to change, and remain distinctly human as AI transforms the workplace.

Michael’s presentations draw from a life that has included military service, more than 20 years in the fire service, leadership as a Battalion Chief, entrepreneurship, commercial banking, coaching, and his current work in artificial intelligence. Those experiences allow him to connect with audiences ranging from frontline employees and emerging leaders to executives, associations, government agencies, public safety professionals, and business owners.

He is also the author of (NOT) Self Made, which challenges the idea that meaningful success happens alone. The message behind the book runs throughout Michael’s work: relationships matter, leadership matters, and the people we invest in often become part of accomplishments we could never achieve by ourselves.

Michael’s keynotes and workshops include topics such as Command Presence, Leadership Under Pressure, Staying Relevant in the Age of AI, and Human Leadership in an AI World. Programs can be delivered as keynotes, interactive workshops, leadership retreats, facilitated conversations, or fireside-style discussions and can be customized around the needs of the organization.

Based in Flagstaff, Arizona, Michael works with organizations throughout Arizona and travels for events nationwide.

Audiences don’t need another lecture about leadership. They need conversations they’ll remember and tools they’ll actually use. That’s what Michael is there to deliver.

Additional booking notes

Michael’s technical needs are simple and can be adapted to the venue and event format.

For most keynotes and larger presentations:

* Wireless lavalier or headset microphone preferred
* Presentation screen/projector with HDMI connectivity when slides are used
* Confidence monitor preferred for larger stages when available
* Ability to play presentation audio/video through the venue sound system
* Presentation clicker preferred
* Drinking water on or near the stage

For interactive workshops, a wireless handheld microphone may also be helpful for audience participation depending on room size. Flexible seating or the ability for participants to interact in small groups is preferred when appropriate.

Michael is happy to work with the event planner and AV team in advance to adapt to the venue. A full production setup is not required, and presentations can be adjusted for smaller or more intimate environments.

For customized presentations, final AV and room requirements can be coordinated with the event team prior to the engagement.

Influences and inspiration

Michael’s greatest influences come from people who have led, communicated, and performed when the stakes were real. His approach has been shaped by leaders he served alongside during more than two decades in the fire service and military, mentors who invested in him throughout his life, and communicators who understand the power of story and human connection.

As a speaker, Michael has studied the work of communicators such as René Rodriguez, Simon Sinek, and Brené Brown, while his leadership philosophy is grounded primarily in real-world experience: leading teams under pressure, learning from failure, building relationships, and helping others succeed.

His strongest influence remains the belief behind his book, (NOT) Self Made: none of us gets where we’re going alone.
