Mia Elliott
Overview
Mia Elliott's Chicagoans are bringing the sounds of the 1920's and 1930's back to the city. Playing rare songs from the past as well as beloved classics, this jazz band has a distinctive style that sets it apart from the rest. Mia Elliott sings from the heart with a technique inspired by the likes of Ruth Etting, Annette Hanshaw, Connee Boswell, and other powerhouse vocalists who shaped the genre for decades to come. With a backing band of veteran improvisors and a mean rhythm section, this group fascinates audiences with hot solos, sweet melodies, and authentic Chicago spirit.

What to expect
I can put together any kind of band. Duo (vocal & piano), trio, 4-piece, 5-piece, and more. We can play one to three sets of music (45-60 mins per set). Piano, string bass, cornet, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, and banjo are all instruments you could expect to come along. I have up-tempo hot jazz songs and slower, sweeter, romantic tunes. All of our songs are true to the era, we do NOT play modern songs in old style (we are not Post Modern Jukebox!). We play quality music for people to dance to, sit and listen to, or hear in the background for ambience. We don't generally don't take requests, but we can maybe bring a song with us discussed in advance if it is important to you that we play it.
About
Mia Elliott is a devoted fan of 1920's-1930's music. With the influence of her good friends in Chicago, she has spent years listening to original recordings and falling in love with the hits from 100 years ago and beyond. Singing, dancing, listening, and collecting are her passions. With a deep rooted background in theater, choir, dance, and vintage styling, she is a one-of-a-kind performer in the Midwest and the entire authentic package. Her group regularly plays at the Astor Club, Tack Room, and the Montrose Saloon. Mia has been mentored by reputable jazz greats, sang at New York's Birdland jazz club, and is joyfully finding new songs to add to the songbook every day.
Additional booking notes
Most of the time, this band can be fully acoustic as the instruments are loud enough on their own. I use an amplifier for my vocals and can supply my own microphone and stand. We can supply a piano, but if the space already has one, we will opt to use it.
