What to expect
When you work with me, you can expect an experience that’s creative, collaborative, and intentional from start to finish. Whether it’s an intimate portrait session, a branded content shoot, or an event, I bring a balance of professionalism, adaptability, and real human connection.
Clients often tell me they feel at ease in front of my camera—many of them don’t even realize how much fun they’re having until we’re mid-shoot. I’m all about guiding with direction while leaving room for spontaneity. I’ll hype you up when needed, adjust lighting and posing on the fly, and make sure we’re capturing something that feels authentic to you.
Visually, expect moody tones, emotional textures, and a touch of the unexpected. I’m big on creative storytelling and highlighting what makes each person or moment unique. I don’t do cookie-cutter photography—I customize the vibe to fit you, your brand, or your event.
For events or bookings, I show up prepared and punctual, always ready to adapt to changing conditions while keeping the energy calm and grounded. I bring the same attention to detail whether I’m shooting a solo session or documenting a full-scale production.

About
I’m Mariela—Queens-based photographer originally from the Dominican Republic, and I’ve been behind the lens since I was 13. What started as a creative escape quickly grew into a lifelong love and my full-time profession. I specialize in portraiture, editorial, boudoir, and conceptual work, blending emotional storytelling with bold, intentional aesthetics.
My style leans toward the raw, intimate, and unapologetically real. Whether I’m capturing the softness of natural light in a cozy studio session or the grit and edge of an experimental set, my goal is always the same: to help people feel seen, empowered, and celebrated in their truth.
I’ve worn many hats—model, creative director, content creator—and that perspective helps me create a comfortable, collaborative environment for everyone who steps in front of my camera. I’m passionate about inclusivity and have worked with clients across the LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and alternative communities. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and powerful in front of the lens.
When I’m not shooting, I’m raising my daughter, managing a dog boarding side hustle, editing like crazy, or daydreaming about my next creative concept. I value communication, artistic freedom, and mutual respect in every project I take on.
Let’s create something unique together.
Additional booking notes
My setup is adaptable, whether we’re shooting in a studio, at an event, or on location. Below are the technical details and requirements to ensure a smooth experience:
📸 Photography Sessions
• Lighting: I provide my own lighting gear, including strobes and modifiers. If we’re shooting in a space with low ceilings or limited outlets, just let me know in advance so I can plan accordingly.
• Backdrop/Props: I have a mobile backdrop setup available upon request. Let me know if you’re looking for a specific color or theme.
• Space Needs: I can work in compact areas, but for full-body portraits or movement-based concepts, a minimum of 8x10 ft. of clear floor space is ideal.
• Power Access: At least one standard outlet is needed for lighting if we’re not using natural light.
🏙️ On-Location Shoots
• Permits/Access: Client is responsible for securing location permissions or permits, if required.
• Weather Contingency: For outdoor shoots, I suggest having a rain date or indoor backup option in place.
🖥️ Post-Production & Delivery
• Images are delivered via a secure online gallery.
• Final edits are retouched with attention to detail (skin, tones, etc.), and clients are discouraged from applying outside filters or edits to preserve the integrity of the work.
• Turnaround time is typically 2–4 weeks depending on the scope of the session.
🎭 Events
• Lighting: I can work with existing event lighting or bring additional lighting if needed. Please share details about the venue lighting setup in advance.
• Crowd Size: Let me know if you’re expecting a large crowd or low-light setting so I can bring the appropriate lenses and flash gear.
• Access: I’ll need early access to the venue to scout the layout and set up if lighting is required.
⸻
If your event or session has unique requirements, I’m happy to customize my setup. Just give me a heads-up during booking so we can make sure everything runs smoothly.

Influences and inspiration
My work is influenced by a mix of personal experience, visual storytelling, and the raw emotional edge of music, art, and film. I draw a lot from the intimacy and vulnerability of classic portraiture, the moody grit of editorial spreads, and the expressive freedom found in alternative subcultures.
Growing up, I was captivated by the power of a single image to say what words couldn’t. I’ve always been drawn to photographers who weren’t afraid to explore the human condition in its most honest, unfiltered forms.
Music is also a huge influence on my creative direction—everything from metal and industrial to dream pop and trap. Artists like Beethoven, Deftones, Sevdaliza, and others help shape the tone and emotion of my sets. I often build a shoot around a feeling that starts with sound.
My background in modeling and content creation also plays a big role. I understand how it feels to be in front of the lens, which informs how I shoot and how I connect with the people I photograph. I’m inspired by those who blur the lines between art and identity, those who lead with softness and power at the same time.
Visually, I love blending softness with shadows, the sacred with the strange, and finding beauty in the overlooked. My influences are ever-shifting, but at the core, I’m always chasing depth, truth, and a little bit of magic.
