Mermaid Gem - Jewel of the Sea

Mermaid Gem presents herself in the way you would imagine a real mermaid would! She has a custom, full silicone mermaid tail and custom accessories. Her style is whimsical and glittery.

Gem brings a handler, or "mer-tender" to every event. Their job is to standby and ensure the safety of the mermaid and guests. They also assist with transporting the mermaid on land, as it's not possible to walk in a tail.

For events with a large turnout, Gem occasionally will bring a treasure bowl filled with "magic" gemstones and seashells to hand out to guests. Birthday events include a special, handmade gift for the birthday child.

Gem offers a variety of add-ons for events that are available at an additional cost. Including glitter tattoos, a jewelry making activity, and professional photography, among more. Contact for the full list and pricing!

Gem will occasionally bring a box for tips, depending on the nature of the event.

Gem performs both wet and dry. At this time, a pool or tank must be provided by the client for any swimming/water services.

A professional mermaid since 2013, Mermaid Gem (Gemma Lascio)'s passion for children, the ocean, and her extensive background in theatre helped motivate her to make her dream come true. She's Cleveland, Ohio’s first mermaid entertainer, and has appeared publicly at many notable local venues including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Greater Cleveland Aquarium, and Great Lakes Medieval Faire. She’s also made a splash at events throughout the rest of Ohio, across the midwest, and as far south as Florida. In 2017, her work was recognized and awarded Best of Cleveland by Cleveland Magazine. In 2019, she acquired ownership of The Ohio Mermaids, LLC.

Character Backstory:
Mermaid Gem hails from the South Pacific, but due to her curious nature, she began traveling and loves to hang out in Lake Erie. She is called “Gem” because some sailors she met noticed her magic gemstone pendant...as well as her sparkly tail and sparkly personality! You can almost always find Mermaid Gem smiling and making new friends everywhere she swims. She also enjoys singing beautiful songs, hunting for treasures, and helping creatures in need.
