Overview

Mr. Pitz has been performing as Mr. Jefferson since 1987 and considers it an honor and a privilege to bring one of America’s greatest historical figures back to life for audiences ranging from first graders to medical school faculties. Since 2011 he regularly presents Mr. Jefferson to the visitors to the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial during their famous Fourth of July celebration. As a graduate of Mr. Jefferson’s University, he is well aware that John Adams’ dying statement, “Jefferson lives” is as true today as it was on July 4th, 1826.

What to expect

Audiences travel back in time to meet Mr. Jefferson during his older years. His recollections of the years that led to his writing the Declartion of Independence is the most popular presentation. Other presentations include, The Louisiana Purchase during his presidency, his struggle to establish the University of Virginia, as well as comments about slavery, his contemporaries, religion, natural philosophy, and his hopes for this nation.

About

Having graduated from Mr. Jefferson's university, the University of Virginia, and protraying him since 1987, I have the good fortune of being able to introduce him to people of the 21st century. His gifts and his contradictions are part of the founding of our nation, and the more we understand them, the better prepared we are to face the challenges of our future.
