July 21, 2026I had the most incredible experience with Mazdak. I had a Persian girls night with a small group of my close friends and was looking for a special surprise to treat us. Mazdak and his Kamancheh posting caught my eyes. I love Kamancheh and it's extremely rare to find an artist who plays outside of Iran. He was very quick to respond and open to my ask, even though it was oddly a small audience size. He suggested adding a second artist to make the outcome more dynamic, and I'm so glad I took his offer. I booked them within hours, they arrived on time to my party and delivered the most moving, curated, and beautiful experience for me and my guests. Mazdak is a master at Kamancheh yet he was so down to earth that he took requests from us and played a variety of our favorite songs and we sang along. He also played beautiful solo pieces. My friends have been raving about this experience non-stop and keep asking me how I managed to find such a gem. It was like having a private concert in my living room. If you are debating on this, I would 100% recommend doing yourself a favor and booking. Worth every penny, truly an unforgettable experience.

Mazdak Alipour presents Persian classical and folk music through kamancheh, vocals, and contemporary fusion. The kamancheh is a traditional Persian bowed string instrument with a deeply expressive sound. Programs can move from focused instrumental listening to energetic vocals and rhythms, engaging both familiar listeners and new audiences.

Mazdak Alipour is a Los Angeles-based kamancheh player, vocalist, and composer with more than 30 years of experience in Persian classical and folk music. Born in Khorramabad, Iran, he began studying music with his father, kamancheh master Faraj Alipour.
His work connects the expressive sound of the kamancheh and regional Iranian melodies with contemporary musical ideas, including electronic fusion. His career includes international performances, more than 20 albums, film scoring, music education, and the book “Taal,” devoted to regional Iranian music.
Career highlights include Silver and Bronze recognition from the Global Music Awards in 2020 and 2021, a featured solo performance under Tan Dun for the Silk Road Project, and a performance at UNESCO’s “Mozart Day” in France.
For concert presenters, festival programmers, and cultural organizations, Mazdak offers solo, duo, and ensemble programs that introduce Persian musical traditions to audiences from all backgrounds. Performances are available in Southern California, with other locations considered by arrangement.
Sound and production
Sound equipment can be arranged with advance notice for an additional fee. Please tell me what the venue already provides so that the equipment plan and any additional cost can be agreed before booking.
The exact technical setup depends on the solo, duo, or ensemble format and the size of the venue. For a kamancheh, vocal, and percussion setup, the typical requirements are three suitable microphones with stands, at least one stage monitor, and a PA system with two speakers sized appropriately for the audience. Larger ensembles may need a different input list.
Stage lighting, performance space, equipment responsibilities, arrival time, and soundcheck are coordinated with the organizer in advance. Please share indoor or outdoor conditions and any venue sound restrictions when requesting a quote.
