Heartfelt & Detailed

Matthew was absolutely phenomenal! From the very first note, he set the perfect tone for our wedding day. His performance was flawless — emotional, elegant, and exactly what I envisioned. I was blown away by how he was able to recreate every song I requested so beautifully and with such precision. Each piece felt personal and full of heart. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how magical the music was. Matthew truly brought my vision to life and made our day unforgettable.

What to expect

Think of a violinist who performed ambient music similarly to that of a DJ! One who could fuse classical techniques with contemporary music. Meet Matt Major, a classical violinist who has spent years studying jazz and modern music as well. Matt Major is a serious violinist who is currently preparing for professional auditions with the major symphonies and is a current violin fellow at the San Francisco Academy of Music. Matt doesn't simply play covers; he performs and makes them his own. He uses his acoustic violin, and if the occasion calls for it, his electric 5-string violin. He plays backing tracks from either his Bluetooth or PA speaker. Each backing track is pre-bought because these are the same tracks that a DJ would invest in, high fidelity. A playlist/show/set is pre-recorded in a singular WAV file, so no matter what happens, the music will always keep on playing. Even if there is no internet, a power outage, or if anything should happen that can disrupt things, Matt is able to keep the show going no matter what. Matt usually likes to start with downtempo and R&B and eventually move into house music.

About

With a colorful blend of neo-classical, fusion jazz, and soul, Major brings a rare yet new sound to the stage. Ever since he was a child, he has desired to play the violin at a professional level, which meant being proficient enough for the symphony or the big stage with a jazz or rock band. While Major has been described as talented, friendly, and a strong improviser by colleagues, Matt writes his original music and spends time perfecting classical excerpts for orchestral auditions. Major channels the energy of the California spirit into his music, and he aims to bring people from different cultures together. He believes that through music, dance, food, and showing love towards one another, we can all collectively make our world a richer and better place.

Matthew Major’s love of music came at an extremely early age. He was born and raised in a musical family, and also lived on the West Coast, which has a vast culture of hip-hop and Latino music. While at home, he listened to the Gypsy Kings, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson and classical music as well as opera.

Matthew Major has performed in Havana, Cuba, Prague, Czech Republic, Valencia, Spain, and is now based in Discovery Bay, California. He has performed at the Beverly Hills Food and Wine Festival in Los Angeles, CA; the WE-DAY Festival at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA; the Farm-to-Fork Festival in Sacramento, CA; and the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia, Spain. He also sat in with the Czech Philharmonic and the Oakland Symphony. He recently completed his master's studies in contemporary performance at the Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain. He is now a Violin Fellow with the San Francisco Academy Orchestra, where he will train for professional auditions with members of the San Francisco Symphony.

Additional booking notes

I'd like a power outlet. If this is not available, please let me know.

If the venue has a sound system, soundboard, or an extra Shure SM-58 mic and mic stand, please let me know! I can utilize all these things, and I often bring an assistant with me to handle these things.
