Western Gypsies are an impressive jazz duos performing gypsy jazz/ blues/ jazz standards/ bossa nova. Matt Frick and Ashton Farner always impress with high level guitar performances. They can sound like 3-4 people as a duo, but adding a bass will really make it special. As a trio they enjoy adding Quin Whitney when possible for a fuller sound. Western Gypsies is 50% with soulful vocals and 50% instruments designed to amaze your audience.
They are ALWAYS early to set up and reliable. Have never cancelled a gig. They can bring their own PA and dress appropriately.
Matt Frick is a full time musician here in St. Pete, FL who has been creating a buzz in the scene playing creative solo performances and also with popular local bands like Rich Sheldon Band, Frickin Beatles, The Strolling Moans, Greg Roy Band, Rachel Lynn Project, Deadline, and his current favorite jazz and blues band the Western Gypsies. Western Gypsies hail from Gulfport, FL, performing gypsy jazz standards and original acoustic compositions. Ashton Farner and Matt Frick are impressing the local Jazz community, creating a high-powered acoustic experience since 2022. The duo first met as students of Josh Hindmarsh from Hot Tonic. They quickly became great friends and were inspired to play the music and styles of Django Reinhardt. Matt Frick’s influences of bluegrass and advanced rhythms mix well with Ashton Farner’s advanced jazz guitar styles. Music aficionados recently enjoyed a memorable acoustical experience with their Full band at Sunshine Getdown Festival.
