Matica has entertained audiences around the globe with Fire show, Circus show. The Matica duo delights all-age-audiences with an engaging circus show that tumbles, juggles and unicycles its way through 40min of joy. Their unique fire show elegantly blends acrobatic and fluid dance, circus daring and skill with beautiful fire manipulation. They also rove and entertain from above on Stilts and a 6 ft Unicycle; donning unique, creative and professional costumes. Heidi also offers aerial ambiance from aerial silks or trapeze. Aerial Cocktail/champagne pouring also available. Matica does "Circus in a Suitcase" workshops in the circus arts as a stand alone or as after-show fun.
What to Expect
Matica are full-time, professional performing and teaching artists.
Audiences can expect merriment and fun.
The fire show is more dramatic and appropriate for all ages, but is particularly great for adults and hard to please teens.
The circus show is better suited to a younger audience as the humor is more silly, but the skills are impressive enough to please all.
Roving is great for any festival or as a greeter for any age audiences
Heidi and Joel of Matica Arts have been performing together since 1999. In the early 2000s they traveled throughout Central America and South America performing with fire and drumming. Upon arrival in the US, they began working on a show without fire and have been performing a family friendly circus show ever since. Their circus show is high energy and action packed- performing with Chinese yo-yo, devil stick, hula hoops, juggling and partner juggling, and balance on a really big rolling globe, a 6ft uni and rola bola. The show features a lot of audience interaction and merriment- they love to get the audience pumped up!
Their work with fire has evolved and changed over the years and can expand to a larger troupe and can include aerialists. Matica's fire show is unique because it elegantly blends circus tricks, dance and acro while elegantly manipulating flame. They present some unique props such as fire stilts and jumping a fire jump rope while unicycling!!! They bring a back drop for exciting entrances and to create safe place to store fuels.
Matica provides roving entertainment: Heidi hoops, dances and plays on Stilts with varied costumes (depending on the event-you pick!) and Joel cruises around juggling from a 6ft uni
Heidi and Joel are dedicated artists who are inspired by the joy of the people, the creative energy of the arts, and love circus as a highly physical medium. Matica are professionals who wear unique and professional costume and arrive early for work. They perform year round at large events, town events, libraries, schools and private parties.
Together they own a circus studio called Thrive Movement Studio where they teach aerials and Capoeira. Heidi focus her practice on aerial fabric and trapeze, hula hoop and juggling. She also practices yoga and is a mover who has studied many dance disciplines from ballet and modern, Capoeira, belly dance and trapeze. She created a residency for schools called Whole Body Mathematics which keeps her busy in the winter. Joel is a Capoeira student and teacher who enjoys exploring the vast capabilities of the human body. He has spent his life training in many different martial arts and sports. Joel also created and teaches a curriculum-infused world history program for schools called Brazil's Struggle for Freedom through Strength. They are both on the Hartford performs and Arts for Learning CT rosters.
