Mark brings decades of experience as a professional pianist and vocalist, delivering a polished yet heartfelt performance that blends vintage soul, smooth yacht rock, classic pop, and tasteful originals. His sound is equal parts nostalgic and sophisticated, often described as Billy Joel meets Steely Dan at a beachside piano bar. Whether solo or with a full band, Mark’s dynamic energy, silky vocals, and impeccable keyboard work create the kind of musical backdrop that elevates any room—without overpowering it. Total Vibe Setter: Mark’s performances are polished yet personable. He brings charisma and class, making guests feel like they’re part of something special, not just watching a show.

What to expect

From a planner’s perspective, you can expect clear communication, dependable arrival, professional equipment, and a smooth, organized setup. Mark will coordinate important details in advance—including the schedule, load-in, performance space, volume requirements, dress, and any special-song requests—so there are no last-minute surprises.

Mark understands that every event has its own rhythm. He can provide tasteful background music while guests arrive, dine, or socialize, then raise the energy when it’s time for people to participate, sing along, or celebrate. His experience allows him to read the room and adjust the music, interaction, and volume without needing constant direction from the planner.

Audiences can expect polished piano and vocals, a wide variety of recognizable music, and an engaging performance that never feels forced or overpowering. Requests are welcomed whenever possible, and the performance can be tailored for different ages, musical tastes, and levels of audience participation.

Whether performing solo or with a duo, trio, or larger group, Mark’s goal is simple: make the entertainment memorable for the guests—and make the planner’s job as easy and stress-free as possible.

About

From solo, duo, to full band great live music should do more than fill the room—it should create the atmosphere people remember.

Mark Szafranski is an accomplished pianist and vocalist with more than 35 years of live-performance experience. Equally comfortable providing sophisticated background music or getting an entire room singing along, Mark has a natural ability to read the crowd and shape the music around the moment.

His extensive repertoire crosses generations and genres, including jazz standards, soul and Motown, classic rock, pop, country, ballads, and familiar audience favorites. Every performance is tailored to the occasion, whether it’s an elegant wedding or cocktail hour, a corporate event, private party, restaurant engagement, anniversary, fundraiser, or lively celebration.

Throughout his career, Mark has performed with numerous respected Richmond-area bands and musicians, including The Soul Providers, Hazeltone, Mother’s Little Helpers, the Bart Chucker Band, Janet Martin, and Big City. He continues to perform regularly throughout Richmond and the Outer Banks, both as a solo artist and with other outstanding musicians.

Mark can provide an intimate solo piano-and-vocal performance or expand the entertainment into a duo, trio, or larger ensemble by arrangement. He brings professional sound equipment, decades of experience, and a relaxed, engaging personality to every booking.

Clients appreciate Mark’s professionalism and versatility—but what audiences remember most is the way he makes every gathering feel personal, spontaneous, and genuinely fun.

If you want polished musicianship without a cookie-cutter performance, book Mark Szafranski and give your guests a musical experience they’ll be talking about long after the final song.

Additional booking notes

Mark provides a professional, self-contained performance setup, including keyboard, microphone, stands, mixer, cabling, and a quality sound system suitable for most small- to midsized events.

Technical requirements:

• A level performance area of approximately 8’ × 8’ for a solo performance, with additional space for a duo or trio
• One reliable, grounded 120-volt electrical outlet located near the performance area with 20A circuit breaker
• Approximately 60–90 minutes before the event for unloading, setup, and soundcheck
• Reasonably convenient loading access and nearby parking
• For outdoor events, a firm, dry surface with complete overhead protection from rain and direct sunlight
• Advance notice of stairs, long-distance load-ins, unusual power arrangements, or strict sound limitations

For very large rooms, outdoor crowds, or events requiring sound throughout multiple areas, additional equipment or coordination with the venue’s sound company may be necessary.

If an acoustic piano will be provided instead of Mark’s digital keyboard, it should be professionally tuned, in good working condition, and positioned in the performance area before arrival. Specific requirements can always be adjusted to fit the venue and event.

Influences and inspiration

My musical influences include Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Van Morrison, James Taylor, the Eagles, Eric Clapton, Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Motown and classic soul, along with jazz and American popular standards.

Rather than imitating one particular artist, I draw from all of these influences to create a versatile piano-and-vocal style that can move naturally from sophisticated background music to classic-rock favorites, soulful ballads, and energetic audience singalongs
