What to expect

You'll hear a variety of songs you loved over the years, most of which aren't the ones other bands typically play. Our sets are designed to fit the event, and we move quickly from one song to the next without gaps between them to maintain a constant level of energy. We take few breaks if any, and those we do take are short unless the event requires longer ones. We love playing music, we have fun doing it, and we'll do everything we can to make sure the people at your event have a great time.

About

Magnetic Horse plays classic rock covers and original music. Here's a little about the bandmembers.

Vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jon Randel started playing guitar and harmonica at age 13, added keyboards soon after, and has been singing ever since he learned to talk. He lived in New York City for many years, where he sang and played in Pookie, Low Media High, Spot The Cat, and Psycle, as well as Monolith in the Albany NY area and Blues Without Borders in Vermont. His solo album, Filters Force the Light, can be heard on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and all major music streaming services, and features Magnetic Horse's lead guitarist Joe Musolino on several tracks.

A native of the Green Mountain State, drummer Tim Buskey was born in Burlington, grew up in Middlebury, and now lives in Vergennes. In addition to being a musician, Tim has been a radio broadcaster for 35 years and currently does shows on WIZN, WKOL, and WOKO. When he's not rocking beats with the band or doing radio shows, you can find him hiking the Green Mountains, skiing, and generally living the Vermont life.

Lead guitarist Joe Musolino began playing guitar at 14 and studied at the Berklee College of Music. He and Jon played together in the bands Monolith, Auracle, and Banquo’s Ghost, as well in the annual Monolith Summer/Autumn Jams in New York’s Capital District for over a decade. Confusingly ambidextrous in music, sports, and other activities, Joe plays guitar right-handed but is largely mixed-handed, throwing a baseball with his left hand while writing with his right (though seldom simultaneously) and is a switch hitter at the plate. In addition to having a talent for choosing the perfect part to play in a given song, he alone knows which of his many guitars will sound best on it.

Born in Los Angeles, bass player/vocalist Don Monroe attended high school in Oklahoma and has lived in the northeast for all of his adult life. Over the last 15 years, he sang and played bass with Five Cent Philosophers in New Jersey and Count Backwards, Glass City Rockers, and Happy Dance in Massachusetts. He also sang and played guitar as a solo performer and as part of an acoustic duo in the Boston area. After spending vacations in Vermont for more than 20 years, he moved to Middlebury full-time in 2023 and is happy to now officially be a Vermont flatlander.

Additional booking notes

We bring a state of the art sound system unless the venue requests that we use theirs, in which case we route vocals and instruments through our own mixer and output that to the house system. We love having room to move around while we play, but as a four piece band, we're able to fit into a small area if need be. We prefer to arrive at least three hours before start time to set up and do a sound check that ensures our overall volume is suitable for the type of event and the room we're playing in.
