Springfield, MO band Luna Jamboree wields a twin-edged musical blade forged by rocky riffs and bluesy licks. The four-piece act aims to cut down the notion that a band be bound by genre. Drawing upon influences including but not limited to rock, blues, jazz, funk, folk, and soul, Luna Jamboree performs live shows that capture an audience’s attention and respect.
The band started as a trio in 2008 when then college neighbors Bryan Copeland (Vox/Guitar/Sax), John Krygiel (Guitar/Vox), and Tyler Mathews (Keys/Vox) began composing primarily acoustic songs and playing acoustic covers. The trio established from the onset that original music would be the focal point and realized that a true rhythm section would need to be recruited. In fall of 2009 at a local eatery, Kate Painter (Drums/Vox) approached the trio about sitting in on the kit for the band. Fortune smiled upon them when Kate mentioned that her sister Kim Painter (Bass/Vox) would play bass with them. When John Krygiel left the band in May 2013, Luna Jamboree opted to not find a replacement but to continue forward with four members. Kate Painter followed her dream to Japan, and Tom Pearson (Drums) joined the ensemble in January 2014. With the completed roster finalized, the band began blending together newly discovered elements of its evolving style.
To date, Luna Jamboree has released one album, 2011’s “What Moves You,” 2012’s EP “Keep Calm and Funky,” and 2013’s single “One More Try.” The recordings show not only the musical diversity that Luna Jamboree possesses, but also take snapshots of the band’s musical evolution. That evolution is blatant in the band’s live performance by way of passionate interludes and dynamic musical constructions that propel the audience to react.
Luna Jamboree has been privileged to play on broadcasts and in showcases including KOLR 10 Ozarks Live, the Q102 Ultimate Homegrown Showcase, KSMU’s Homegrown Live, and Tag Radio. Along with a growing media presence, Luna Jamboree was crowned the 2013 Rumble for Rockin’ Ribs Champions and headlined the original band line up at the 2013 Rockin’ Ribs Festival. Not afraid to share, Luna Jamboree has played shows with numerous upcoming and more established bands including Speakeasy, Onward Etc., SpinRad, and Delta Sol Revival.
The remainder of 2014 will be excitement filled, as Luna Jamboree will be releasing a new EP, “And Those Seen Dancing,” and continuing to play around the Midwest!
