July 17, 2015Lori played solo classical guitar for our wedding on Folly Beach on 7/11/15. She played beautifully and was familiar with every song that we requested. She was very professional and was prepared with all the equipment needed to play on the beach. I couldn't have asked for a better ceremony musician. I wholeheartedly recommend Lori Spencer to anyone seeking a classical musician!

November 20, 2012When I was a young boy my Dad was a grad of an exclusive school in Detroit that graduated the likes of Barry Gordy, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and his good friend James Jamerson, bass man for the now-famous Funk Brothers. James and my Dad used to get some of their player-friends to come over on Sunday afternoon and play any style they knew. In the 40's there was a style of guitar playing called "chord melody," where the top note of the chords played was the actual melody. The chords, however, could be any voicing and usually wandered around two or three different keys. My Dad was an expert at this style, and I used to listen for hours to him and his friends making this lush and lovely jazz music created from popular tunes of the day.
I am by training a bass player with a degree in music, and I had the occasion a few years ago to meet Lori Spencer and prepare some tunes for an upcoming engagement. Besides being a consummate player, Lori instantly won my respect and admiration when we sat in her den and played three or four tunes in chord melody-style. Not only does she handle current jazz standards and latin-beat music with a smooth proficiency, she pays homage to a style of playing that was the standard faire in the "big band" era and launched the careers of guitar greats like Les Paul, Alvino Rey and Wes Montgomery. Lori also has a huge resource of players from whom she carefully selects individuals who she feels will be the closest to perfect for the occasion for which her talent is being sought. Whatever the occasion or whatever your needs for entertainment might be, Lori is a one-stop shop for the magic that will be a perfect presence for your Holiday or other musical needs. And if both of us are lucky, perhaps you and I will meet at one of these occasions where I have been asked to participate. I can't think of a thing I would rather be doing.

Blue Tulip Band - exceptionally popular vocal jazz blues, jazz, and R&B by award winning female musicians with decades of stage experience. songs that you know with a twist all our own. Blue Tulip normally appears as a Trio with Guitar, Vocal/keyboard, and conga player but up sizes for larger parties with both a bass player and saxophone. We can appear as background music or do a complete stage act. All of our sound equipment is Bose so our setup requirements are small and we can provide perfect clear sound mix without the need for extensive volumn which is perform if your needs are background music. Our lighting equipment if needed is all LED so low power usage and no danger from very HOT traditional band spotlighting.
