We are a dedicated and extremely energetic group of professional musicians that love the Talking Heads, especially their brilliant concert film, Stop Making Sense. We formed our band having the vision of putting on a mini-version of the film with the addition of some of the Talking Heads' top hits not in the movie. We give you a full-on show with costuming, props and all the signature parts you love hearing. Our sets will have you and your guests dancing from start to finish. You won't be able to help yourselves!
I saw these guys for their debut performance and - I kid you not - they are already the best tribute band in Portland (and I've seen a lot of local tribute bands). Everyone in the bar (when they weren't dancing with big grins on their faces) were saying either "Wow, I forgot how many great songs Talking Heads had!" or "Wow, this band is amazing!"
Hi Life During Wartime!
I thought I'd send along some of the responses we got from your performance. Thank you all again for the wonderful Talking Heads experience. Top drawer all the way!
"This band was amazing! I dunno... I thought it was better than the real Talking Heads lol I had a blast!" – M.B.
"I loved every moment of (the) band's performance!! Every member of the band was top-flight! Very tight, entertaining and professional"– K.N. Dance instructor/entertainer
Good luck in all your future endeavors. You will go far!

Our 5-7 piece band is made up of pro players who have been crafting their skills for years as stage performers and musicians. Life During Wartime offers a true Talking Heads experience complete with all the signature licks and sounds, costumes, and stage props. Our set lists were specifically designed to keep you and your guests entertained and on the dance floor from start to finish. We are visually exciting to watch, very energetic and know how to keep the audience engaged. We are experienced in how to work different types of event publics, whether a private party, corporate event or club gig. We think fast on our feet when gears need to be shifted and pay attention to what the audience is responding to.
You will find that we are a responsible and dependable group of individuals. We have a strong band leadership and a dedicated music director who is also a band member. We provide you with a contract that spells out clearly everything you can expect from us, and what we'll need from you. We are well-organized and professional. And VERY friendly!!
When you hire us, you can expect a full on Talking Heads experience as described in the What to Expect section of this profile. We work hard to capture the full essence of The Talking Heads performance styles, especially that of the 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense. We want you and your guests to be completely enraptured by the visuals and the music we present. We have our own music director and a theatrical coach that assist us in honing in on every aspect of our show.
Our core group consists of 5 members: Lawrence Orleck as David Byrne, Chi-town Sher as Tina Weymouth(bass), Peter Le Clair as Alex Weir(guitarist and singer from Stop Making Sense film), Andrew Killough as Jerry Harrison(keys) and Matt Ramsdell as Chris Frantz (drums). For certain types of gigs, we bring in a percussionist and back up singer.

In order to put on our full show, we need a staging area of at least 12' x 20" (for 7 piece) and preferably larger. We run and jump around a lot. The stage needs to be either fully carpeted or one solid wood construction like in a theater (as opposed to uncarpeted pieces of plywood laid down). We can provide a stage as well as our own lighting and sound person at additional cost.
