Beautiful violin melodies and intricate, grooving cello bring life to pop, classical, fiddle, and jazz classics.

Comprised of married couple Justin & Alexis Lepard, the duo perform regularly along the west coast as private event musicians, and also have modest social media success along with recordings that have been featured in dozens of songs and several big budget motion pictures.

Having settled near the Tillamook countryside, the pair look forward to creating musical magic for the greater Portland area.

What to expect

You can expect timely communication, prompt arrival, and most of all - great playing with a smile! Simply let us know the circumstances of your event, and any requests for songs or styles.

For private event duo hires, you can expect:
1. A wide breadth of repertoire in pop (modern & oldies), classical, jazz, fiddle and folk.
2. Customizable concerts; choose which genres you prefer, and we can always accommodate up to three requests for your favorite songs if we do not yet know them (we love learning new songs!).
3. Flexible setup; from two acoustic musicians in chairs to fully amplified musicians filling a larger space, we are equipped to handle a variety of event setups

For remote recording, you can expect:
1. Cello is recorded by a stereo microphone capturing a clean and dry room sound, as well as a close mic running through a tube amplifier to get a nice beefy, full, loud, clear cello sound
2. I can overdub to record whole orchestral sounds, from bass to violin, with no phase cancellation issues that usually plague overdubbing
3. All parts come trimmed and ready to be mixed in easily
4. No written parts required, I can compose any style you'd like for your strings, and improvise lead lines or stylistic solos where appropriate
5. I will provide you with the correct bit rate and file type for maximum compatibility with your project
6. I use Logic Pro X and Ableton Live for project sharing

About

The Lepard String Duo is an in-demand duo for private events and weddings in the greater Portland area. Having cultivated a quite expansive repertoire over the years, the pair (who are married) has developed a niche for lively and custom private concerts. Alexis, also classically trained, specializes in fiddle, folk, and pop music, while Justin brings jazz and improvisational knowledge to add energy to the accompaniment parts.

Most of the time when a cellist plays non-classical music, it is considered "crossing over" from classical, and they bring with them classical sensibilities to phrasing and arrangement. This is fine in its own way, but where I've found my niche is in approaching music like a guitar player or pianist, using my ear, intuition, and experience to improvise and compose. I play live string music as a duo with my wife on violin, and am an online recording cellist for clients and social media.

Additional booking notes

Space requirements:
1. 8ft x 4ft of flat, shaded space
*We need flat ground, but grass is okay
*If there isn’t natural shade we have a canopy we can use; ideally let us know in advance if this will be needed and please account for it visually
*Can’t be playing directly on a walkway

Weather requirements for outdoor events:
1. Humidity 30-70%
2. Temperature 45-85
3. No strong wind, rain, or snow
4. Light rain is okay with a canopy
5. 100 ft minimum away from a body of water
*if upon arrival one or more of these conditions exist alternate plans will have to be made on site, hopefully minimally impacting the playing, but up to and including playing unseen through a speaker from the safety of an indoor location.
*We will not use our speaker outdoors if it is below 40 degrees, raining, or snowing. In those cases we may not be able to perform at all. We will record all requested tunes within the week.

Amplification:
1. Not all events require amplification, but for those that do, we have a setup we can bring
*For this we need access to power
*We can daisy chain our speakers output to a DJs if need be

Communication:
1. Please get final song requests to us by two weeks before the event
2. Please connect us with a day of contact person so we can speedily account for all in person details
*Someone should also be present for wedding processionals to cue song changes when there are more than one

Overtime:
1. Every additional thirty minutes is $100 extra, payable by cash or payment app

Bonuses:
1. Isolated audio or video recordings of your requested songs can be made on request.
2. Sheetmusic souvenirs for particularly meaningful original arrangements can also be requested.

Visual stylings:
1. If there are any instructions to match or contrast with the wedding you can let us know that.
