Overview

Hi! I'm so glad you're here! My name is Lauren Robel and it is my passion to walk beside people through all stages of life, particularly while sharing stories. I come from a family of multigenerational farmers and it has been a joy to soak in their wisdom, laugh over memories and share music. My set list will start with Grover Washington Jr., make a stop as the Andrews Sisters, and end up with Kermit The Frog. At any size of event, the most important thing to do is connecting with the audience and bringing a little sunshine to someone's day. I have played cooperate events, house concerts, and weddings. I am adaptable, quirky, and will aim to match the tone of your event.

What to expect

I am a single singer showing up with a cute little instrument called a Banjolele (banjo body with ukulele tuning). She has a quirky sound full of sass and the feeling of home at the same time. I have my own sound equipment that is good for a room of about 30-70 people. I value intimate concerts where stories can shared but also love to play background music for events where people want to visit and celebrate with each other. I am highly adaptable and can stop in a song at a moment's notice thanks to my background in theatre (if announcements need to be made or the bride has finished walking down the aisle). I can learn songs and give them a soft and warm touch to not over power the event. I aim to be an asset to the team and not the center of attention.

About

Music has always been a part of my life. I remember when I was 8 my family was watching a music awards show and I said to them, "I'd like to be a singer." The began the singing lessons for next 14 years through Elementary, Junior and Senior High all the way through my Post Secondary Schooling. I love it. I find it easier to express my feelings and how I look at the world through music.

Fast forward a few years and I find myself in a band and we had a really great time singing together because we were three friends singing. So it has stayed a passion of mine past my schooling. I've recently left the band in pursuit of new adventures (believe me, it wasn't an easy choice) but I still love to share songs.

Fast forward again and I have started playing cooperate gigs (Calgary Fire Fighters Association Retirement Party 2019), house concerts, numerous weddings, and lately concert in seniors homes. I am a Therapy Assistant by day but music will always be my first passion.

Additional booking notes

If you by chance already have your own sound equipment and a sound tech, all I need is two vocal mic inputs (one for vocals and one for my banjolele that has to operate on phantom power-your sound person will know). Otherwise, tell me where to stand, when to go off, when to come back on, you name it. Like I mentioned before, your event is about the named cause and not about my performance. I'm honoured to contribute with music.

Influences and inspiration

I love Rosemary's Clooney's sound and breath control, Lady Gaga's audacity and honesty, Sara Barellies vulnerability, and Shania Twain's sass. I also love Teddy Swim's and Johnny Cash's grit. All of these artists, including many more have influenced my sound and story telling. I am nearly purely a cover artist but have a few originals that I like to toss into my setlist. My goal is for the audience to relive childhood memories, groove to some classics, and sing along to some "heart songs". My setlist covers songs of great joy but also not afraid to address how hard life can be and at the end, finish on the note where we can make it through if we have each other.

Setup requirements

Two Vocal inputs, a vocal mic and a vocal mic chord where I can plus in my Banjolele mic.
