Laura Sullens Cello

Praised for her gorgeous tone and wonderful technique, cellist Laura Sullens is a passionate performer and teacher and hopes to inspire others through her music.

After seeing a cello on TV and falling in love with the sound, Laura began playing cello at age 11 by signing up to join her middle school’s orchestra. She started private lessons soon after, studying first with Bonnie Scruggs and later Jean Beaudoin. Laura has performed in orchestras as principal cellist at numerous esteemed venues, such as Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco and Carnegie Hall. She began freelancing professionally in her community when she was 14, as well as participating yearly in the All County and Western Regional All State orchestras.

Laura is currently an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she is pursuing a bachelors of music performance. She has since participated in master classes with a wide range of esteemed musicians such as Sphinx Virtuosi and Shana Tucker. An avid supporter and performer of new music, she regularly premieres the music of student composers and was the featured cellist in the short film Of Our Trespasses.
