Larry Axon-Seasoned Lead Guitarist
Overview
Seasoned lead guitarist with experience in most styles, except jazz and metal. Willing to learn any songs (with sufficient lead time), but can step in and play by ear in any context.
I'm looking for a regular band, to play mostly weekends, but can be flexible. Lots of experience just "filling in".
I play mostly clean lead style but can also play acoustic sets and more rock. I don't play jazz, and, while I can play some heavy rock leads I really am not a hard rock or metal player.
I play regular country or old hits in secular settings, but also have lots of experience playing Christian and worship music.

March 18, 2026Excellent guitarist, better friend
I love playing music with Larry. He is an incredible guitarist with a deep joy for music. We have played together many times and recorded together. He is adaptable and loves working on particular lines for songs. He is a wonderful person and a kind friend.

Price range: $150 and up
Languages: English, Spanish
Gig length: 45 - 200 minutes
What to expect
I bring my own gear, I'm easy to get along with. I try to use lead as a support for the whole sound, not as the
"main thing".
Don't drink or do 420 but I'm totally comfortable if you do.

Additional booking notes
I normally play a Fender Tele with either a small or a large (depending on the gig) Fender blond tube amp. I also have a Les Paul if that is more appropriate for the gig. I have a dedicated mic for the amp if needed to plug into the sound system. I don't play the electric without an amp.
I have a electric acoustic that I normally play through the amp, but we can discuss plugging into the sound system directly depending on the venue.
I bring all my own equipment. All I need is power and, if you want, a mic cable to plug the amp mic into.
I also bring a stool. Had a back injury. I can stand and play out when appropriate but I need to sit sometimes.
If you want me to learn specific lead parts for specific songs, I can do that but I need a digital recording or link to listen to them first, and time to learn them.
I can read chord charts, but honestly I prefer to just play by ear.
I can learn and do some background vocal harmony, but that's not my main thing.
Services offered
Set list
I'm a backup player not front man. You sing and play it, I can play along.
I have played hundreds and hundreds of songs from old hits, but I can't promise to remember all of the distinctive leads off the top of my head.
I've certainly played in a lot of cover bands, but I am better at copping the vibe and coming up with something that fits with the sound than remembering every head off the record. I can learn certainly learn and play specific heads as you supply me recordings but, depending on how many there are, it might take me some time to learn them all.
Influences and inspiration
I like clean leads. I have strong blues, R&B, and soft rock influences. Not really a shredding guy.
Clapton, Santana, and lots of favorite session players.
I have done a lot of dance band and old hits but also have created leads for a LOT of original music.
Setup requirements
Just a power plug for my power strip and a mic cable if you want me to use the amp mic. If you want vocals, you'll have to let me know. I don't normally bring mine but i have it all if you need it.
