Formed in 2012 by three musicians from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, the L’abri Trio is a vibrant combination of saxophone (Kenny Baik), cello (Peter Kibbe), and piano (Bonghee Lee), dedicated to reinterpreting traditional trio music and to exploring new compositions with the eclectic sounds of their unique instrumentation. The L’abri Trio has reimagined classics by Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Poulenc, and Piazzolla, while commissioning new works from some of today’s most imaginative composers, and growing the repertoire for this novel and surprisingly versatile instrumental combination. The trio has played both domestically and internationally, including performances at Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University (Shriver Hall), Maryland Institute College of Art (Falvey Hall), Peabody Institute (Friedberg Concert Hall and Griswold Hall), Howard Community College (Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center), the 37th International Saxophone Symposium, The Church of the Epiphany Tuesday Concert Series, Academy Art Museum in the U.S., and appearances abroad in Seoul, South Korea. In 2018, their recent album of pieces by Beethoven, Poulenc, and Piazzolla, which showcases their own transcriptions, was released, and the trio was selected as a finalist for the Pro Musicis International Award. Each member has a strong background in both traditional music and in new music, and together they proudly showcase this new instrumental trio sound.

We believe classical music is for everyone who desires to listen. Our goal is to make chamber music accessible to all people, by making it understandable and breaking down the barrier of Classical Music. We are influenced by all genres of music and there is much emotional depth to be found in chamber music. Our influences are of course classical composers of today and the past.
