Kyle Hagen

I am very experienced in all types of live performances such as festivals, weddings, private functions, concerts, pubs, restaurants and so much more. I can also record bass lines for artists, producers and composers in my home studio or the client's studio.

Aptitude as a bassist, professional cooperative behaviour and versatility in my repertoire and equipment are what I pride myself on. I can always adapt to any situation and follow through on what the people who hire me expect. I play bass guitar and upright bass. I can also perform backing vocals. I play every genre of music and have the ability to learn musical quickly repertoire, even at a moment's notice.

I have established and held down a career as an active and versatile bassist and bass instructor for nearly 30 years. I play electric bass and double bass covering all musical genres and especially enjoy heavy metal, jazz, classical and world music.

My career as a bassist has had several great highlights and has taken me to the United States, Europe, Turkey and across my native Canada. I was involved in a death metal band called Sinned whom has served as an opening for Swedish death metal supergroup Arch Enemy and appeared on the Year Of The Carnivore soundtrack. I was the bassist for Simon Collins, the son of Phil Collins, in 2008 and performed with him on Canadian and U.S. national television in addition to sharing the stage with bands like Collective Soul and appearing in his music videos. Since 2006, I've been working with Lache Cercel and The Roma-Jazz Ensemble, travelling with them to Romania on three separate occasions, once to study Romanian folkloric music with Marian Jantea and the latter two to perform at a medieval festival and functions concerning the Roma communities and culture of Europe. I also currently perform with Canadian thrash metal veterans, Aggression, with whom I have recorded three albums and held an opening slot on a North American tour with Death To All and Cryptopsy. Some other groups I'm currently active with are Maiden Vancouver (Iron Maiden tribute), The Whiskeydicks (Celtic party rock) and Parno Drom (Slavic Roma music and dance).

I first studied piano during my childhood and eventually settled on electric and upright bass in my early teens. I have studied bass with some of Vancouver's top professional bassists including Laurence Mollerup, Rob Copeman-Haynes, Jodi Proznik and Rob Marr. I previously enrolled in Douglas College's music program with an emphasis on classical music as well as the jazz music program at Capilano University, culminating with a Bachelor Of Applied Music in Jazz and Contemporary Bass Performance from Vancouver Community College.
