January 11, 2020Krystofer Maison performed at the Boston HIV Research Community Advisory Board's (BHRCAB) HIV education event in Boston called "HIV Reframed". My team had been looking for performers who would be not just fun and entertaining, but who had stories to tell about more than just the medical narratives of HIV and AIDS. There's a whole lot of life that goes into living with HIV: it's complex, nuanced; at once a community and immensely lonely.
Krystofer performed a brand new song called, "Charmed, I'm Sure" - an intimate portrait of a relative who had lived and passed during the most tumultuous years of AIDS. As a trained professional musician myself, it's not often that I'm moved so profoundly by a live performance; as soon as Krystofer started to sing "Charmed" - goosebumps.
I've met few who can read a room, engage, and bring us a complete story in the way that Krystofer can - not to mention a velvety, powerful voice and incredible boots.
