Kristian Herlofson is a professional trumpet player in Portland, Oregon. He's played in many groups that include the following: U.C. San Diego Big Band, Mt. Hood Community College Big Band, San Diego City College Big Band, Joe Marcinkiewicz Big Band, PCC Wind Ensemble, and the Thara Memory Big Band, too. Kristian has played over 300 shows with the Fabulous Mar Dels. Kristian Herlofson has also played on hundreds of performances with the Norman Sylvester Band. He is a skilled orchestra pit musician and a valuable part of high-dollar musical-theater productions. Kristian Herlofson has played and recorded with Grammy nominated Patrick Lamb, and Merle Haggard's saxophonist: Renato Caranto.

The production was a success, and the show would not have been the same without

Kristian Herlofson was influenced by Luis Armstrong, Al Hirt, Dizzy Gillespie, and musicians that came before him. Kristian Herlofson has studied under the following horn-men: Flip Oakes, Frank Glasson, Les Kepics, Shannon Roberts, as well as the late Roger Woodall, and once Mt. Hood Community College music director, Larry Mc Vey.
Kristian Herlofson owes much gratitude for the valuable experiences on stage with the late Jimmy Cheatham and his lovely wife Jeannie. Kristian Herlofson gives strong Kudos to the late composer and pianist, Calvin Jackson. Kristian admired the man, and fondly remembers the times they spent together at the Cheatham jam sessions. On those nights, Calvin Jackson, would often sit with Kristian and share stories of the way things used to be.
Kristian Herlofson's Influences would not be complete without a sincere mention of Leroy Vinnegar, Mel Brown, Ron Steen, Ralph Black, Paulette Davis, Glenn Lane, and many others that he shared the evening hours with.
Kristian Herlofson's first teacher was a Mr. Lloyd Bader. "Bless his dear soul," said Kristian. "He was a good teacher, too." As a young boy, Kristian played alongside Lloyd Bader and his Hammond Organ, and they entertained throngs of old folks at the senior centers, and for gatherings at the Elks Lodge. Songs like: Harbor Lights, Five-Foot-Two, Dinah, and Dream. Kristian was quiet and reflected... "The world has moved on and forgotten about great teachers like, Lloyd Bader, but I never will." All of the afore mentioned have touched Kristian's life in some way, and he feels it's worth mentioning.
