Koto Music by Reiko Obata

A leading American koto performer in both traditional and contemporary styles, Reiko Obata studied under masters in the U.S. and Japan, including renowned composer and virtuoso Shinichi Yuize. She holds a master’s degree in music from San Diego State University and a Daishihan (Grandmaster) degree from the Seiha Conservatory of Japanese Music. Reiko has performed as a soloist with orchestras, collaborated across genres, and appeared on TV, radio, film, and live theatre. Her band East West Jazz blends classical Japanese sounds with jazz, and she has released multiple recordings featuring original compositions and traditional repertoire. Reiko’s performance credits include major cultural events, international festivals, and film soundtracks—including Monkey King 2.
