What to expect
We are an acoustic string band rich in vocal harmonies. We tend to rotate lead vocals among the 4 of us with others adding harmonies. We do some originals, but mostly covers of various Americana and Bluegrass-adjacent songs. We have a good mix of upbeat songs that get folks out of their chairs, along with songs that are more conducive to a dinner event... we can adjust the setlist depending on the venue. Nearly all of our songs have full, 4-part string instrumentation and vocals, but we do have a couple of a capella tunes in our song box.
About
We've been playing together as a band since late 2023, though we've played together in different combinations much longer. We all sing, usually rotating vocal leads on each song while the others add vocal harmonies and instrumentation. Band members include Brian Miller (mandolin & vocals), Scott Tougas (guitar, harmonica, & vocals), Gail Wiegner (guitar & vocals), and Allen Wiegner (upright bass & vocals). We reside in Waltham and Newton, but have done and welcome gigs across a broader area.
Additional booking notes
While we welcome the use of a PA system and mics provided by the venue (less for us to haul around!), we can provide our own AV equipment and pop-up tent / canopy for outdoor events, but we do need access to power. We have a PA we can use for most situations, along with our own mics and cables.
We often use a single, central mic for all our vocals and instruments, blending the sounds by stepping into and away from the central mic. Since we usually gig without a sound tech, this let's us control the blending from the stage. In certain circumstances, we add additional mics or instrument lines. If multiple lines or mics are used, we would need to arrange for someone to monitor the sound blend.

Set list
We can customize the set list for the venue and needs, leaning into more raucous numbers that get people out of their chairs to more chill tunes for a dinner or browsing farmers-market vibe. You can see a few of our songs at on Facebook (Search FB for "Knotted Pine band").
Our current (and ever-growing) setlist includes Steel Rails (a bluegrass standard best known by the Allison Krauss or John Denver covers), Long Time Gone (a Darrell Scott tune popularized by The Chicks), Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning (based on the Red Molly cover), Dancing in the Moonlight (original by King Harvest, but we follow the cover by Yonder Mountain String Band), Love Light (a Claire Lynch tune), Live Forever (a Highwaymen cover), Something to Love (a Jason Isbell song), This Side of Lonely (a Bailey Jester cover), Levi (an Old Crow Medicine Show cover), Midnight Moonlight (a Peter Rowan tune), Achillies (from The Dead South), Wildflowers (orig. by Tom Petty, but we follow the Wailin' Jenny's cover), Just Like Heaven (orig. by The Cure, but we follow the Infamous Stringdusters cover), While Embers (a Rubber Knife Gang song), Cabin on Lonely Hill (from Anne & Pete Sibley), Rain in the Valley (a soulful a capella number from The Steel Wheels), Shady Grove (a Yola cover), Dark Hollow (a bluegrass standard), Seven Bridges Road (an Eagles cover, mostly a capella), Welcome Table (traditional), Castles (a Devil Makes Three song), Our Roots Go Down, a few originals from one of our band members, Scott Tougas, like Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down, and more.
Setup requirements
Access to power source, at a minimum.
If needed, we can provide our own mic(s), PA, and pop-up sun cover (for outdoor events).
