What to expect from our performances varies greatly depending on the type of performance you have selected. I have broken down some of the scenarios below:

Events with no character:
The performer assigned to your event arrives dressed in fun and festive clothing (not made up as a clown unless you have specifically requested a clown.) When you book your event, you will select options a la carte from a list. The length of the booking and number of children in attendance will determine how many options may be selected. The performer will generally begin with a magic show or story-time (if selected), then move on to face painting or glitter tattoos (if selected), followed by balloon twisting (if selected), and then finish with games (if selected). Frequently, especially for corporate events, we will be hired just for one specific activity such as face painting or balloon twisting.

Princess & Superhero events:
Any "human" character including princesses, superheroes, pirates, etc. arrives already dressed and playing theme-related music on a portable sound system. Shorter parties or very large events may just be a meet and greet with the character for photos, etc. Some characters can perform theme-specific activities. Otherwise, activities may be selected from our regular list of options and will be completed by the character in the order above.

Mascot events:
What is a mascot character? Mascots are the characters whose costumes are too bulky and visibility too restricted to perform our regular activities in character. If you choose a mascot character for your party, the performer will need to change into the costume at the venue. If activities have been selected, the performer discreetly hides the costume in a secure location (designated by the client) where he or she will change, then comes to the party and performs the activities selected dressed in festive clothing. When activities have been completed, he or she will leave the party and change into the costume (this requires about 5 minutes). Depending on the costume, sometimes the performer will need assistance with zippers. The performer then returns to the party in costume for a meet & greet as the character for photos and dancing. The mascot characters do not usually speak, but the performer will bring a portable speaker system with theme-related music.

Kids Party Productions was founded over 25 years ago in California by Dave Groh. He moved the business to Massachusetts in 2008, which is when I came to work for him as a performer. The job was a perfect fit for me because I'm a mother, I love children, and have a background in acting, singing, dancing, and face painting. Learning the magic, balloon twisting, and airbrush to round out my skills was tricky, but fun! When Dave moved back to California in July, 2012 he sold the business to me so we could continue to serve all of our faithful customers in Massachusetts, some of whom have become like family.

Since then I have both remained true to Dave's original vision while adding some new and exciting characters and programs. We have gone from 50 costumed characters to over 100. Our costumes are some of the best in the business as are our performers. The entertainers currently serving on our team have many years of experience and it shows. They are a kind, loyal, talented, dedicated, and fun group of individuals that I am proud to call colleagues and friends.

Our #1 focus is to make your child feel special and create an unforgettable and truly priceless experience for you and all of your guests. Many of our customers choose to include a character, but we can also provide entertainment without a character such as face painting, airbrush or glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, magic, games, hair tinsel, story-time, crafts, and more! In addition to birthday parties, we work at many corporate functions, community, charity, and school events. We are fully insured and have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. All of our performers are wonderful with children and are CORI-checked annually for your peace of mind. Here is what is technically required for each different activity:

Magic (15 minutes):
No set-up required, just a place for the children to sit.

Story-time (15 minutes):
No set-up required, just a place for the children to sit.

Games (15 minutes & up):
No set-up required. Dancing games can be performed in a very small space. Parachute games require an area of at least 15' square. The parachute works best for groups between 8 and 20 children. Extended games include running games like tag and dodge-ball and are best performed outdoors or in a very large space like a dancefloor.

Balloon twisting (2 minutes per child):
No set-up required. Balloon twisting can be performed in one place or the performer can stroll from table to table. A flat surface for the performer's balloons is great but not required. Note: balloons do not react very well to some outdoor situations: grass, sun, wind, extreme heat or cold. Balloons are also dangerous for younger children who will bite them or pick up pieces of broken balloons and eat them. The performers are very good about replacing balloons that have popped, but it's best if this activity is performed indoors or toward the end of the event because our time is usually limited.

Face painting or glitter tattoos (4 minutes per child):
Both of these activities require a table space of at least 2-3 feet square and two chairs. Set-up for face painting takes about 5 minutes. If this is the first activity, the performer will arrive early for the set-up process. Clean-up also takes about 5 minutes. The performer will need access to a sink to fill and empty his or her water bucket. For events at fields or parks, the performer will generally bring his or her own water.
