I have been drawing caricatures at parties and illustrations for over 20 years. I love drawing at parties because its fun and challenging. I have trained with other artists and with amusement parks so I am quick and accurate. I can draw in black and white and color on paper and digitally. I will travel 100 miles outside San Diego.
For my 10 year old son's birthday party, Kara was great! The kids absolutely loved it and the parents were stunned when they had such a great keepsake to take home.
I highly recommend Kara for any event! She is extremely talented and all her Caricatures were spot on!! Loved it!!

Response from Karacatures:
Thanks so much, it was great party! Glad I could be a part of it.
Kara was so much fun to have at the party. She is an excellent caricaturist and very engaging. We had a line to get to her for drawings. Don't hesitate to use her as an addition to or replacement for a photo booth. Everyone loved their drawing.
Thanks Kara!

I bring my easel, lights, supplies and even chairs, if you want. I set up in 10 minutes, i just need shade if outside and room to set up 2 chairs and an outlet for lights, if needed. I bring clear bags and rubber bands so that your guests can take the drawing home in good shape. I can also put your logo or words on the paper or digital drawing so your guests will remember where they got their gift or the event itself.
What Do Caricature Artists Do?
We don't exaggerate, unless you want us to! We take the features that make you an individual and draw them so that you look like a cartoon, like what Disney animators do, but faster. It takes about 3 minutes to draw a black and white caricature head, and a little longer to add a body and/or color. We can draw 20-25 heads per hour on paper, so it's a great take-home gift from your event! You can even get your logo on the paper or digital printout!
Caricature Artists for San Diego is headed by Kara Wald, a San Diego caricature artist who has been doing caricatures professionally for over 27 years.
I got started by seeing someone drawing caricatures at a mall, knew that I had drawn portraits since I was little and decided to try to make some money doing what I loved. I drew and practiced and drew some more and moved to Ocean City, Maryland for the summer. There I drew all day and night, practicing caricatures and cartooning. When I moved back to Washington, D.C I started drawing caricatures at parties. I’ve drawn at every kind of function and for all kinds of clients, from baby showers to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, to weddings, and retirements. Even at the Vice President’s house in D.C.!
I received formal training in art at an early age from family and various community and school classes. I was especially interested in figures and portrait drawing. I studied art and graphic design in college in the West and graduated in 1988. I moved to the Washington DC metro area after graduating. I discovered caricatures when I saw a woman doing it in a mall in the DC area in 1990. I saw her drawings and thought, people love it and I can do that! I was inspired to learn how to draw live caricatures by copying other artists work and drawing caricatures at Ocean City, Delaware one summer. I have been drawing professionally at various parties, conventions, and picnics ever since then. I love the challenge of drawing quickly and capturing people’s personalities in only a few lines. I enjoy entertaining by making people laugh and enjoy themselves at a party. My goals are to continue developing an individual style of caricature for myself and increase my knowledge of cartooning.
Additionally, I paints with oils and acrylics, usually figures, but also still life. I also sculpt figures and abstracts and have designed websites and has done graphic design in Washington DC. I taught myself HTML from a book at the beginning of the Internet, when a link and a picture were big news. I now use Flash and interactive languages to build websites.
My work is unique for its painterly style of cartooning. I approach caricatures as a painting, using a brush tip for lines and my knowledge of painting for color and composition.
I also hire other talented artists to work with me who are experienced and dependable.
Call us for an individual illustration or for caricatures at parties!
