KalHaven Strings

We provide a music from a variety of genres, including classical standards, pop tunes, film and video game music, classic love songs, jazz, tango, and fiddle music. We are also able to accommodate any requests that you may have! Our most popular package is the wedding ceremony, ranging from $350 for solo violin to $950 for string quartet. We also offer services for cocktail hours, wedding receptions, birthday parties, anniversaries, Christmas parties, and more. Our ensembles include solo violin, violin-cello duo, string trio, and string quartet. We typically arrive at a venue 30 minutes before we begin playing to set up. Wedding ceremonies include 30 minutes of background prelude music before the ceremony start time, any music desired during the ceremony, and one or two pieces of postlude background music, including up to 4 special music requests from outside our repertoire catalogue. Venues located over 60 miles from Kalamazoo, MI will incur additional travel fees.

The KalHaven Strings met as graduate students in the music department at Western Michigan University in 2014. Since then, we have performed music for over 200 weddings and special events. Highly adaptable and versatile, we are skilled in performing a variety of styles and your requests to ensure that your special day is personalized in every way. We enjoy having the opportunity to spend time together while doing what we love: making music. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, prompt communication, and friendliness. In addition to providing music for weddings and special events, The KalHaven Strings serve as Candlelight Concerts by Fever’s Grand Rapids-based string quartet, performing classical concerts, cover concerts of the music of Taylor Swift and Queen, movie music, holiday-themed concerts, and more.

The client will provide chairs (without arms) for the musicians. Quartet: 4 chairs, Trio: 3 chairs, Duo: 2 chairs, Solo Violinist: 1 chair. Musicians are not able to perform outdoors at temperatures below 55 degrees. Musicians are not able to perform outdoors in rain or snow without suitable coverage. In case of adverse weather, suitable shelter shall be provided for the protection of instruments and musicians (i.e. tent), or the event shall be moved indoors, to a rain location, or cancelled. Umbrellas do not provide suitable coverage for stringed instruments. A rain delay may be possible pending musician availability. The decision to play will always be at the discretion of the musicians, in order to protect themselves and their instruments. Musicians will always arrive at the agreed upon time, despite weather threats. To be considered ‘indoors’, shelter must have heating capabilities, a roof, and 4 fully enclosed sides.

COVID Policies:

-Our musicians are fully vaccinated and will be happy to wear discreet black face masks upon request.
-All deposits are non-refundable. Full balances are due two weeks before event dates. If events are cancelled with 14 days' notice or more, deposits will be applied to new event dates. KalHaven Strings will continue to monitor and adhere to all federal, state, and local COVID orders. If an event is cancelled due to a governmental order with less than 14 days' notice, the deposit and balance will be applied to a new date, but will not be refunded if a new date is not selected.
