About
Josh Plath is one of NYC’s top up-and-coming drummers.
Originally from Rochester, Ny, he first picked up drumsticks at the age of eight…starting with private lessons, and then studying at Rochester’s prestigious Hochstein School of Music and Dance, where he became fluent in jazz, rock, latin, r&b, funk, classical, hip hop, and other genres of music.
Josh began drumming professionally, while still in high school, performing throughout upstate New York.
In 2008, he joined the US Army Band, and studied at the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon graduation in 2009, Josh was sent to Fort Drum, New York, where he became an Army Bandsman in the 10th Mountain Division Band. For the next two years, he toured the US with them.
In 2011, Josh was honorably discharged from the military, and moved to New York City, where he was accepted to Manhattan’s prestigious New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. While at The New School, he studied with such drumming greats as Mike Clark, Shawn Pelton, Adam Deitch, Mark Guiliana and Steven Wolf. He also studied performance with, and was mentored by long-time Miles Davis keyboard player/producer, Adam Holzman.
Currently, Josh is the drummer in the NYC bands Oba, Monroe, and his own band Civilians playing a mixture of hip hop, rock, and contemporary jazz music.
