Johns Jazz - We play popular jazz standards of all eras. The basis of the group is trumpet, piano, bass and drums. If requested we can add a vocalist to join us. When playing restaurant venues, I like to add a singer or two for variety, as we are a featured group and not background music. For background music, the quartet alone is mostly whats requested.
DBQ Brass Quintet - plays popular music, jazz and movie themes audiences will be familiar with. The group is made up of 2 trumpets, flugelhorn, trombone and bass trombone / tuba.
The Friendly Neighborhood Big Band - plays the best big band music on the West Coast thanks to a member who was a music publisher. We have access to over 3,000 big band charts and can play dances, concerts, and weddings.
Trumpet Soloist - David also plays music for weddings. He will require a harpist / pianist or string ensemble to accompany him.
David started playing trumpet in elementary school... which is now a looooong time ago! He traveled on the road right out of college playing all over the country, then six months played in Las Vegas. Wanting to get back to LA, he earned a Master's Degree in Music from USC and then a few years later went into the computer business, but always kept playing his trumpet somewhere. After retiring and moving to the Central Coast, he started playing in local orchestras, jazz ensembles while still doing some recording in LA. He formed Jazz Four with some friends, then later Johns Jazz as he started asking talented singers to be guest artists with the group. His usual groups these days are Johns Jazz, The Friendly Neighborhood Big Band, Symphony of the Vines, Santa Maria Symphony, and the DBQ brass quintet. He also enjoys tennis and riding his bike.
I have my own sound system so that does not need to be provided (only electricity is needed). If playing more than a few songs, shade will need to be provided. If not available, we can bring our own.
